Appraisal forms are the key instruments used to measure performance. Care and attention are required to ensure that the forms include all the necessary components.
Regardless of the specific components included in the appraisal form, there are several characteristics that make appraisal forms particularly effective. These are simplicity, relevancy, descriptiveness, adaptability, comprehensiveness, definitional clarity, communication, and time orientation. Before it is used, each form needs to be evaluated based on the extent to which it complies with each of these characteristics.
Discuss the following:
Identify, evaluate, and interpret a performance appraisal form. Justify your rationale with academic data.
Using the performance appraisal form, create two strategies that will improve the appraisal and capture information about employees that would focus on growth potential within the organization.
Determine and measure how your strategies will maximize effectiveness and efficiencies of the performance appraisals while impacting organizational development.

Kiplinger’s Best College Values- Private Colleges

Introduction
Selecting the Data
Dependent variable (y) = Average debt at graduation
Independent variable (x1) = 4-year graduation rate
Independent variable (x2) = Total cost per year (in state)
Independent variable (x3) = Average Non-Need-Based Aid
Rationale
In the last years we have witnessed a huge increase in education cost, especially in private universities. We are interested in understanding the financial independent variables that could affect a student’s decision on applying to one or more of the top 100 private universities that we have chosen to study. We believe that the data we are about to find out will be a useful resource for everyone that is likely to transfer to a University after graduating with an Associate’s Degree from Bellevue College.
Reliability of Source Data
Started in 1920 by a former AP economics reporter, Kiplinger Washington Editors, Inc., is a based publisher of business forecasts and personal finance advice. The company managed for more than eight decades by three generations of the Kiplinger family—founder W. M. Kiplinger, who served as editor in chief of all publication. Overall, Kiplinger seems to be a reliable source, as it was included on the provided list of data sources. Further, it compiles its information from the U.S. Department of Education and Peterson’s Databases, both which have high standards, and are well-known reliable sources.
Limitations of the Data
As far as limitations in our data, we could be missing the economic backgrounds of the students applying for private universities in order to understand better their financial need. Another limitation could be the missing data of the area of specialization of each university since each undergraduate program faces variables cost depending on the area of specialization. As Kiplinger only includes the 100 top-value private universities, the data may be influenced by this, as they likely use debt at graduation to determine what universities have the best value. A limitation of the data is that is based off only one year, rather than having multiple observations for each university over time. Since the total debt is based over a time period, being able to see notable changes over time in the factors would be useful.
Cleaning up the Data
Since these factors were all accessible from the same data source, it ensured that our values for each university were based on the same year and were obtained in a similar method. Additionally, my group decided to use all 100 available private universities on Kiplinger to avoid selection bias. Further, since all of the data was in the same unit (US dollars), and taken in the same year, adjusting for things such as inflation were not necessary. Due to this, the data did not require much cleaning, and was collected directly from the website.
General Assumptions
From the data previously shown, I can assume that the total cost per year will be a big factor to determine how much debt the student is in after graduation, this meaning the higher the total cost per year, the higher the debt after graduation. Also, another assumption would be that the universities with higher debt after graduation are in regard to their geographic location.

The best model would be X2, X3 because it is the only model that has a significant F < 0.15, indicating that the model is important. Additionally, all of the p-values of the parameters are < 0.15, demonstrating that each parameter is significant. In the other models, their Significant Fs were > 0.15 and at least one of their parameters is not significant because the p-value is > 0.15.

Compared to the original, this model has a higher Multiple R, and Adjusted R Square. Since the Multiple R is higher, this indicates that there is a stronger correlation of linear relationship between the Y and X-Variables by about 0.1048 (0.3139 vs. 0.2091). Additionally, the higher adjusted R Square shows that more variation is explained in the final model, with about 5.41% more variation accounted for (7.81% vs. 2.40%). This higher adjusted R Square means that the final model is more reliable than the original model; however, since the coefficient of determination is low for both models, neither are that reliable.

Assumption
Yes or No?
Why or Why Not?
Mean of 0
No
The residual plots are not very symmetric since the points are not evenly around 0. For the Total Cost/Year residual plot, there are more points above the x-axis between 40,000 and 60,000 while there are more points below the x-axis between 60,000 and 70,000. For the average-non-need based aid residual plot, points on the upper half of the graph appear to be closer together, and less spread out in terms of the x-axis compared to the lower half of the graph.
Constant Variability
No
For both of the residual plots, if two lines were drawn parallel through the points above and below the x-axis, many of the points would not be near this line. Since there is no trend, and the points have varying distances from the x-axis, there is not constant variability.
Independent
Yes
Based on the residual plots, it is suggested that the data is independent because there appears to be no pattern to the graphs. There does not seem to be any particular order or shape to the data point, and therefore the observations are independent.
Normality
No
Using the normal probability plot, it is observed that the line is not linear. Though the slope of the line appears to be relatively linear from 30 to 100 on the sample percentile, it is steeper from 0 to 10 and somewhat flat from 10 to 30. Since this line is not straight, it is not a normal distribution.
Equation
38089.4666 + -0.1636525(X2) + 0.11657019(X3)
This means that with every increase in $1 of total cost/year at a private college, the average total debt at graduation at that college would decrease by -0.1636525. The equation also shows that for every increase in $1 of average non-need based aid a private college offers, the average debt at graduation at that college would increase by 0.11657019. If both total cost/year and average non-need-based aid at a private college was 0, then the average debt at graduation would be 38089.4666.

Discussion
Using the Multiple Linear Regression output, it is observed that the model’s Significance F is 0.01040297, which is less than 0.15, therefore the model is significant. However, since even though the p-values for intercept and total cost are < 0.15 (4.7584E-14 and 0.01171609 respectively), the p-value for average non-need-based aid is 0.2206577, meaning the parameter for average non-need-based aid is insignificant. The model also does not appear to be very reliable because the Adjusted R Square is only 0.07807577, meaning that only about 7.81% of the variance is explained by the model. Additionally, the Multiple R is 0.31394741, which indicates that the correlation of the linear relationship is not very strong.
RECC/DRAWBACKS (ADD)
Summary and Conclusion
After comparing all combinations of the three variables, it was concluded that the best model was the one that used total cost/year and average non-need-based aid as the variables. This is because after increasing alpha to 0.15, this was the only model that had a significance F and all p-values of the parameters below 0.15. Once removing the outliers from this model, it was found that the final model had a stronger reliability with Multiple R of 0.3139474 and an Adjusted R of 0.07807577 compared to the original model’s Multiple R of 0.20914261 and an Adjusted R of 0.02402394. However, the final model is still not a very reliable predictor.
Considering the analysis of the regression model, it can be concluded that the relationship between total cost per year, average non-need-based aid and average debt at graduation is not explained due to Multiple R being only 0.31394741. Additionally, because Adjusted R square is only 7.81%, it can be stated that much of the variation is not explained by the regression, further demonstrating that the model is not a reliable predictor of average debt at graduation.
Looking at the regression model, it indicates that there is a positive relationship between average non-need-based aid and average debt at graduation with each dollar increase in average non-need-based aid causing an increase of about $0.116 in average debt. Additionally, it shows that there is a negative relationship between total cost/year and average debt at graduation, with with each dollar increase in total cost/year causing a decrease of about $0.164 in average debt at graduation.
If we were to improve this model, we would pull data from schools beyond the Kiplinger’s 100 top value colleges. Since these school were considered top value, we assume that the average debts are not representative of US colleges at large and tend to be on the lower end. We would also want to look at multiple years of the colleges we selected, as these values likely vary year to year. Due to average debt being a culmination of multiple years of college, it seems like it would be helpful to look at how average non-need-based aid at the same institution differs over the years. Overall, through this project, we have gained a deepened understanding of data analysis, and have learned how to present and summarize data in an understandable way. Due to this, we believe that we can now approach reliable data found online and come to solid conclusions and interpretations.

Hydro energy is a renewable energy source that creates only very small amounts pollution or harmful greenhouse gases, such as methane or carbon dioxide. Hydropower is one of the cleanest forms of renewable energy that we use today. One of the main benefits to Hydropower is that we do not need to disrupt ecosystems by mining coal or drilling for oil. It also does not create radiation like nuclear energy does. And unlike the unpredictability of wind energy, hydro energy is very reliable. Many Hydro plants have a natural body of water, such as a river or a man made reservoir, that has an endless supply of water. Water will always be flowing as long as the source is full, whereas the wind comes and goes without warning.
There are three main types of hydroelectric power plants which are impoundment hydroelectric, diversion hydroelectric and pump storage hydroelectric. Impoundment hydroelectric are the most common and are plants that utilize a dam that utilized to create a reservoir of water at higher elevations. These dams utilize the gravity flow of water to create clean energy. Diversion hydroelectric utilize natural flowing river currents that use low head turbines to generate electricity. Pump storage hydroelectric is a plant that uses what is called a dual-action water flow system. In this system when the demand is low, water is pumped from the lower levels to the upper levels behind the dam which is stored and used later when the demand for power increases.
Costs of maintaining and operating a hydro plant is very low. There is a small amount of employees required to continually operate and maintain the plant. There are also no real production costs that are associated with hydro energy because the water does not need to be transformed or purified like fossil fuels. Hydro plants can also adjust their intake of water to create more or less power to meet the desired electricity. If power consumption is low, less water is needed, and flow is restricted by the control valve, wicket gates. If energy consumption is high, or there is an emergency need for power, such as a blackout, the gates are opened, flow is increased, and more power is created. Hydro plants have a distinct advantage over other renewable sources, such as wind and solar, by supplying the power grid effortlessly on demand with power.

The Impact Social Media Is Having On Our Interpersonal Communication
I. Introduction
A. “Social media should improve your life, not become your life” –Ritu
Ghatourey
i. Credibility Statement
1. I searched through the Communication and Mass Media
database and through the google search engine for
about 3 hours in order to find articles that were both
credible and informative. I also reviewed these articles
several times to ensure they were providing the proper
information I needed for this presentation.
ii. Thesis statement
1. This presentation is about how social media is
impacting our interpersonal communication and how
we can manage our use of social media more effectively.
iii. Preview
1. I will be talking about how social media causes us to
spend more time on our devices than with those around
us. I will then address how we can effectively balance
between social media and the real world.
That being said, let’s begin with how,
II. Body
A. Social media causes us to spend more time in our virtual worlds than
with people who are close to us.
i. We are so “engrossed” in our virtual worlds we “Hardly find
time to talk to those near and dear to us”. (Karin, 2012)
ii. We are actually starting to prefer communicating virtually than
communicating face-to-face (Keller, 2013).
iii. “We don’t feel as personally connected to people at other end
of our mobile devices as we do when we’re face to face” (Keller,
2013)
This brings me to my next point,
B. There are a few ways to manage between social media and the real
world more effectively.
i. A way to use mediated technology to maintain that face- to –
face contact is using Skype or FaceTime to call a friend.
ii. Interpersonal communication is all about communicating on a
personal level, “If you’re trying to get people together to do
something, don’t be afraid to take initiative and ask” (Stenzel
Clinical Services, 2015).
Essentially,
III. Conclusion
A. Social media is going to continue to impact our interpersonal
communication and we will continue to have to find ways to manage
the amount of time we spend on our devices.
B. So, that being said, “What consumes your mind, controls your life”-
Anonymous. You have the ability to choose whether or not you want
social media to have that power over your life.
