In most cases we see that people argue about the intent of the artist or what the use of the object was as being an argument for it not being considered a traditional work of art. For example with Islamic Art, pages from the Koran were intended to be read and used for religious purposes, not put on display in museums and in African Art, the masks were intended to be worn and used for rituals, not hung on gallery walls. Why did we study such objects as works of art in this class? Why should they be considered works of art even if their intention was not to be for a museum or collector? Please use four examples of works of art to discuss how objects not traditionally made for a museum can be considered works of art. Two should be Islamic and two should be from Africa.
