For my essay, I would like to compare Achile Mbembe’s Critique of Black Reason and look at its dialogue with the Critique of Pure Reason by Immanuel Kant. This will allow me to explore Kant’s important work and discover a “monument” of Western philosophy in comparison to Africana philosophy. Ask questions like: How does Achille Mbembe define Black reason? How is it different from what we usually call “reason”? How is it different from Kant’s definition? But also go deeper and show how the questions are contextualized within a broader philosophical debate. Looking at the different settings in which these works were written and how their views might differ from one another. The context. Then talk about how you plan to develop your research, such as focusing on a chapter in Mbembe’s book and a chapter in Kant’s book and maybe comparing them with one another. Doing foundational research to learn more about the philosophers, etc. and be sure to be precise when explaining the process of planning and developing the research. So instead of writing an essay about the topic, its a research proposal that shows how you plan to achieve writing the essay. Explain the steps carefully. Show the philosophical relevance of the project and its feasibility. Show the ways in which the questions that are asked are contextualized within a broader philosophical debate.
