Concepts of Population and Sample
Population: a collection of the whole of something – e.g. all students of UCLA; all people who live in LA; all people who play the guitar.

Sample: a set of individuals drawn from a population e.g. the female students in UCLA are a sample of all students at UCLA.

Values associated with population are parameters and those with sample are statistics.
Types of data: Discrete and Continuous
There can be two types of data: Discrete and Continuous. Discrete data does not deal with intervals but Continuous data has interval formations. Tools used for discrete data are pie charts, graphs. Tools used for continuous data are cumulative frequency distribution, histograms, and frequency plots.
Quantiles:
Quartiles divide the data into quarters and Quintiles, deciles and Percentiles divide the data into percentages.
Formula for percentiles: Lp = (n+1)P/100
Measures of central tendency
Arithmetic Mean = ∑Xi/n

Variance = ∑xi^2/n-1

Median is the centre most observation of the data. Formula to be used is: middle value if n is odd; average of middle two values if n is even

Interquartile Range = IQR (Q3-Q1)

Coefficient of variation: It is defined as a measure of spread as a proportion of the level of the centre called cv. CV = s/ Xbar

Covariance: Measures the linear relationship between X and Y. sign indicates direction of slope, but magnitude is dependent on units of measurement.
Calculated as : ∑(xi-xbar) (yi-ybar)/n-1

Coefficient of Correlation: Measures the strength of relationship between X and Y.
Formula: r =Cov(x,y)/sx.sy

If r=-1, perfect negative linear relationship
If r=+1, perfect positive linear relationship
If r=0, no LINEAR relationship
Important Probability formulas to be used:
P(A or B) = P(A ∪ B) = P(A union with B)
P(A or B) = P(A ∪ B) = P(A union with B) = P(A occurs, or B occurs, or both occur)
P(A and B) = P(A ∩ B) = P(A intersection with B) = P(A and B both occur)
P(A̅)=P(Ac)= P(A complement) = P(A does not occur)
P(B|A)=P(B occurs given that A has occurred
P(A) = P(A∩B) + P(A ∩ Bc)
P(A or B)=P(A)+P(B)-P(A and B)

Conditional Probability Formula: P(A/B) = P(AB)/P(B)

Formula to check if A and B are independent events:
If A and B are independent, then P(A and B) = P(A)*P(B)
Then P(A|B) = [P(A and B)]/P(B) =[P(A)*P(B)] /P(B) =P(A)

Formula for complement i.e.: P(A not happening) = 1- P(A) i.e. 1- P(A happening)

Formula for expectation of an event
If X and Y are random variables, and c is any constant, then the following hold:

E(c)=c
E(cX)=cE(X)
E(X-Y)=E(X)-E(Y)
E(X+Y)=E(X)+E(Y)
E(XY)=E(X)*E(Y) only if X and Y are independent

Formulas for variance:
If X and Y are r.v.s and c is a constant,
V(c)=0
V(cX)=c^2V(X)
V(X+c)=V(X)
V(X+Y)=V(X)+V(Y) -if X and Y are independent
V(X-Y)=V(X)+V(Y) – if X and Y are independent

Formula for independent probability:
If the random variables X and Y are independent,
then P(X=x and Y=y) = P(X=x) . P(Y=y)
p(x,y) = px(x) . py(y)

Linear Combination Formula:
Suppose L = aX + bY
E(L) = aE(x) + bE(Y)
Var (L) = a^2V(X) + b^2V(Y)

Formula for Combination: nCk = n!/k!(n-k)!

Formula for Permutation: npk = n!/(n-k)!

Continuous PDF Properties:
1) f(x) must satisfy the following:
2) f(x)=0 for all x, that is, it must be non-negative.
The total area under the curve will be f(x) = 1

Formula used to calculate continuous PDF
P(a < X < b) = area under the curve between a and b
Evaluate as : ∫ f(x) dx ( evaluated from a to b)

Mean and Variance of uniform distribution:
E(x) = a+ b/2
V(x) = (b-a)^2/12

If X~N(µ/σ), then formula to be used for the linear transformation is:
Z = (X-µ/σ) is normally distributed with N(0,1)

Formula for probabilities by using normal distribution:
P(X < a) = P( X-µ/σ < α-µ/σ)=P(Z < α-µ/σ)
Where z is normally distributed with (0,1)

    Statistics Survey Project

    Description
For the data survey project, you will address a question that interests you with the statistical methodology we learn in Statistics Ma-212-21SP2. You choose the question; you decide how to collect data; and you do the analyses. The questions can address almost any topic (It MUST be classroom appropriate.), including topics in economics, entertainment, psychology, sociology, natural science, medicine, public policy, sports, law, etc. Do NOT do a simple survey like what is your favorite ice cream flavor.
The project requires you to synthesize all the material from the course so far.
Your project will be presented in a Google Slides or some other presentation tool.
You must get a sample of at least 50 people. In other words, at least fifty people must complete your survey. Be sure to use the statistical methods that you have learned in class. There is no formal write-up of your project, i.e., no term paper is written. Also, include in your statistics that some people didn’t fill the survey. Each person must submit a project.
    Presentation and Point Value
You must include each of the following on separate slides:
    · Topic
    · Question asked
    · Link to actual survey submissions or screenshots of results on a couple of slides
    · Define any terms if necessary.
    · State what you want to find out.
    · Describe exactly how you are surveying the individuals and what is your population. (1 pt.)
    · Survey with the question(s) you are asking people. (1 pt.)
    · State how you obtained your sample. What sampling method did you use? Explain if you used a random sample and why not if you did not. How can you change the survey results (2 pts.)
    · Present relevant descriptive statistics. (2 pts.)
    · Results of the survey in chart and graph form. (1 pt.)
    · Find the mean, median, mode, midrange, range, and standard deviation. (2 pts.)
    · Summarize your results in words. (2 pts.)

I need a statistics writer who could understand the INSTRUCTION FROM the professor’s feedback. I wrote my own research design on logistics regression and I need the writer to edit it, please. Just edit what he asked.

    This is his feedback:
“The purpose of the discussion board is not to analyze data, it is to design a study that you could conduct with existing data or data you collect. Your dependent variable, in this case, is whether a student goes to public vs. private school. Therefore, your literature review should be about the characteristics that differentiate whether kids go to public or private school.

You do a good job describing the HSB data set and the variables you use.

Rather than analyzing the data, you should describe how you would analyze and validate the study.

You should also talk about threats to internal validity. What other variables or factors aside from the ones you listed might account for differences in whether students go to public or private schools?

Again, I don’t need the analysis. I just need you to describe the plan and how you will validate it. I also need you to focus on whether kids go to public or private school as the dependent variable. Your logistic regression is about understanding which factors account for whether kids go to public or private school.”

AND I WILL UPLOAD MY WORK AND THE WRITER CAN EDIT IT.

    Central Limit Theorem

Each week, you will be asked to respond to the prompt or prompts in the discussion forum. Your initial post should be 75-150 words in length, and is due on Sunday. By Tuesday, you should respond to two additional posts from your peers.

For the last several weeks, you have been working with this scenario.

ABC Enterprises is a growing company in which employees must frequently travel for business. Currently, each employee is allotted 30 dollars each day to cover all meals. Employees have complained that this is not enough, especially when traveling to some of the more costly cities and countries. A survey was taken to get recommendations for a new allotment. Although not all responded, the response rate was good.

This week, we are going to use the Central Limit Theorem. We are going to pretend that our data set represents the entire population of ABC Company. It doesn’t, but we are going to pretend that it does.

    1. What is the mean dollar amount that is recommended by the population of employees?

    2. Now, we are going take 3 samples of 10 dollar amounts from the spreadsheet and average (find the mean of) them. Open the spreadsheet and make sure you are on the Week 4 tab.

Statistics Assignment Help Instructions: First, develop two testable hypotheses that could be evaluated with a t-Test in your final paper dataset. One of these two hypotheses should/could be the topic for your final paper in the course. Then, using the dataset for your final paper in the course, conduct two t-Tests in JASP to evaluate these hypotheses. These tests can use the same IVs or the same DVs, but they must be otherwise unique analyses. Note that you’ll need to use the codebook for your dataset to examine some of the variables appropriately (e.g., which numbers represent which gender). Then, submit your assignment according to the What/How to Report section below.What/How to Report: Write a paragraph describing each of the two analyses above and their results in APA style (i.e., analysis conducted, hypothesis, key statistics, results in everyday language). You should use the template provided on the slides from the t-Test lecture Download the slides from the t-Test lecture to ensure that you’re writing in APA style. If either result is statistically significant, you must also include an APA-style figure for it. Therefore, your final submission should two paragraphs and figures (if statistically significant). You should also include your output from JASP as an appendix.*** The hypothesis I am using is that more days in COVID quarantine lead to unhealthier habits and feelings of loneliness. ***

    Topic

In nursing, we seldom know the true values or percentages of many illnesses or syndromes. For example, if we were asked how many people contracted a particular strain of flu during a year then we could give estimates but not the true count. Not everybody went to the doctor or emergency room. Most probably did not get a test to determine the particular strain of the flu. Sometimes we just deal with estimates.

For example, in a survey done in November 2018, 43% of people in the United States had been vaccinated against the flu with 3.9% margin of error with 95% confidence (“News Scan for Dec 06, 2018”, 2018). This would allow us to create a confidence interval:

    lower bound = 43% – 3.9% = 39.1%

    upper bound = 43% 3.9% = 46.9%

so we are 95% confident that the true percentage of individuals that got vaccinated is between 39.1% and 46.9%.

    PSY805 Evaluate Statistical Analyses

This week, you have learned about t-tests and ANOVA and will apply what you have learned in the evaluation of several research scenarios (Hyperlink and the 3 attached files). For this task, you will read each research scenario and answer the questions regarding each one.
Research Scenario 1A researcher is interested in the effects of a new weight loss supplement. Participants in this double-blind study are randomly assigned to either a group that receives the new supplement or a group that receives a placebo. Participants are weighed before starting the program. After 6 weeks of taking either the new supplement or the placebo, participants return to the lab to be weighed.
Provide the appropriate null and alternative hypotheses.
Determine which type of analysis would be appropriate to answer this research question. Be specific and support your answer using the textbook or other course materials.
Name the independent and dependent variables used in the analysis. What are the levels of the independent variable?
Indicate the levels of measurement for each variable.
Describe the Type I error for this study.
Describe the Type II error for this study.
Research Scenario 2A researcher is interested in whether certain memory strategies help people to remember information. This researcher employs students from a local college, and then randomly assigns them to one of three groups—the visualization group, the mnemonic technique group, and the rote repetition group. Participants in each group receive an hour of instruction regarding how to use the particular technique to remember lists of words. After the instruction, all participants are presented with a list of 60 words that they are instructed to remember. The words are presented one-at-a time on a computer screen. After the last word is presented, all participants are instructed to recall as many words as possible by writing them on a blank sheet of paper. All participants are given 10 minutes to recall the words.
Provide the appropriate null and alternative hypotheses.
Indicate which type of analysis would be appropriate to answer this research question. Be specific and support your answer using the textbook or other course materials.
Name the independent and dependent variables used in the analysis. What are the levels of the independent variable?
Indicate the levels of measurement for each variable.
Describe the Type I error for this study.
Describe the Type II error for this study
Research Scenario 3A local manufacturing company is interested in determining whether their employees are as happy with their jobs as other employees. The manufacturing company asked the workers, who volunteered to participate, to rate their happiness at work on a scale from 1 to 10 where 1 was not at all happy and 10 was extremely happy. The manufacturing company found that the mean happiness rating for their employees is 7.3. In the general population of workers in the United States, the mean happiness rating is 6.
Provide the appropriate null and alternative hypotheses.
Determine which type of analysis would be appropriate to answer this research question. Be specific. Please support your answer using the textbook or other course materials.
Name the variables used in the analysis.
What are the levels of measurement for each variable?
Describe the Type I error for this study.
Describe the Type II error for this study
Length: 1-2 pagesYour paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards.

book (based on copyright dates). Plan and describe the sampling
procedure, then use the results to construct a confidence interval
estimate of the mean age of all books in the library.

    Quantitative Data Results

I have provided you with my data for the survey question: “What knowledge and experience have you acquired on each of the following”. There were two participant groups. Group 1 completed a mental health course, Group 2 did not complete a mental health course. Therefore, it is important to report the results for these groups separately – DO NOT COMBINE THEM please.
In a Microsoft Word document, clearly and concisely write up (summarize) the results for each group of participants. This should not take long – please just report the summative values, as you would report them in a Results section for a thesis or dissertation.

Does that matter? In general, why is a meta-analysis necessary? Seems easy to measure working and drinking, right? Or not? And what about different samples? What other “what abouts” create variation across the studies included in the meta-analysis. In then end, are the results helpful or do you think they lack credibility?

Statistics Assignment Help Open the course codes list GSS variable codes.docx. Look over the brief descriptions of this small snapshot of GSS variables. Choose a variable that you would be interested in learning more about. For example: let’s say you want to know what factors might explain satisfaction with one’s financial situation (SATFIN). Write a sentence or two explaining what interests you about that variable in terms of a dependent variable.
Next, choose three additional variables that could be used as independent variables to explain your dependent variable. For example, you might want to look more closely at the number of hours people work per week (HRS1), number of years spent in school (EDUC), and the total wealth of the respondent (WEALTH). Write a couple sentences explaining the logic behind your choice of these three independent variables.
Visit https://gssdataexplorer.norc.org/variables/vfilter. For each of your four variables (one dependent and three independent), use the Control/Command F search function to find more information about how these indicators were posed to respondents, and what their possible responses could be. Report a basic description for each variable.Warning: this codebook covers 1972-2021, so there are many variables listed for questions that were not asked in our data set (which covers 2016-21). Be sure to pick variables included in our data set.

For each of your four variables, identify whether it is nominal, ordinal, or continuous (scale). This will depend on how the data are represented in the codebook. Note: for the purposes of this exercise, you can ignore “don’t know” and “no answer” categories.

Download GSS 16-21 JASP.csv and upload in JASP*. Construct descriptive tables for your variables. For continuous (scale) variables, you can use the basic Descriptive table. Under the “Statistics” dropdown menu, select “Median”.
For nominal and ordinal variables, select the “Frequency tables” box.
Note: You will need to run separate analyses for continuous vs nominal/ordinal.

Write a sentence or two interpreting your descriptive tables for each variable.
*First download the data set from Canvas. Do NOT click on the file. Second, open JASP. Click on the menu button (blue lines) > Open > Computer > Browse > Downloads > the file the downloaded.

Discussion 6: Could/Should This Type of Study Include Randomization to Condition?
Have a look at the article (https://www.goodtherapy.org/blog/study-do-self-help-programs-work-as-well-as-therapy-0828171) about whether self-help is as effective as professional therapy. (The article includes a link to the original study, but no need to read it.) Discuss whether and how a study of this type could be a “true” experiment (which includes randomization to condition). Notice, too, the experimental stimuli for the self-help condition, which is either a book or an online program. There are a few wrinkles, which are explained near the end of the article, but the bottom line is whether we should trust the results given design issues. Should we? And/or how would you design a study to test the hypothesis that professional therapy is more effective than self-help? (Note the directional hypothesis.)
REMEMBER: First, you must respond to the question posed in the discussion. Once you’ve done that, take some time and reply to at least two classmates’ discussion posts. Each peer response will include at least one positive observation (i.e., what do you agree with, appreciate, or find interesting? why?) and at least one critique (what would you change? what is unclear, needs more support, or further explanation? why?). Remember, you must post 3 times (your original response and 2 responses to classmate’s comments) to receive full credit.

Discussion 7: Response Rates Matter. Or Not?
Recent election polls in the US and UK have been fairly inaccurate–the 2020 US presidential election might be the worst of the lot. Read this article (https://www.politico.com/news/2021/07/18/pollsters-2020-polls-all-wrong-500050). Response rates have been pretty poor and/or the “wrong” sampling frames have been used. Or the wrong questions were asked. What response rate would you be comfortable with assuming a useful sampling frame? Notice that we can determine if a pool is accurate by comparing it to election results. If a poll is off, is the response rate and/or sampling frame always the culprit? How about a social scientific survey? How can we trust the results if we don’t have a population to compare it to?
REMEMBER: First, you must respond to the questions posed in the discussion. Once you’ve done that, take some time and reply to at least two classmates’ discussion posts. Each peer response will include at least one positive observation (i.e., what do you agree with, appreciate, or find interesting? why?) and at least one critique (what would you change? what is unclear, needs more support, or further explanation? why?). In my business, we sell products to a customer that makes heavy use of forecasting to make decisions about order quantities, among other things. The make/hold quantity and the associated pricing to make that quantity are based on the annual expected usage using forecasting reports. For example, the price per thousand parts is rather high when the quantity is only 1,000; compared to a lower price per thousand if the expected annual usage is 100,000. Therefore, the customer makes good use of these reports to save money in the long run. What are your experiences with forecasting?

Statistics Assignment Help (30 points) Problem (Exercise) 1, page 250, from your textbook.
(20 points). Problem (Exercise) 3, page 319, from your textbook.
(50 points) ****Two of the nurses (Mary and Jane) from the textbook example Riverview Clinic Urgent Care Staffing Using Linear Programming (pages 326-330) have decided to work part-time rather than full-time. They would like to work only two consecutive days per week. Because they would be part-time employees, salary, and benefits per nurse-day for these nurses would be reduced to $160 on weekdays and $220 on weekend days. Riverview could hire an additional full-time nurse if needed. Set up the problem in Excel to reflect the possibility of allowing these two nurses to work part-time.
Using Excel Solver, determine how many nurses should be assigned to each possible schedule. Riverview’s goal is still to minimize weekly salary expenses.
Should Riverview agree with Mary and Jane’s request to work part-time? Why?
Should Riverview hire an additional full-time nurse? Why?
Assuming that part-time nurses and any new hire will accept any schedule and preferences (and preferences scores) for the remainder of the nurses are the same (as in the textbook example), what new schedule would you recommend for each nurse? You should use Excel Solver to answer this question.

For part a., you only have to construct an X-bar chart using the standard deviation of the observations to estimate the population standard deviation and calculate the control limits. Parts b., c., and d. are the same as in the textbook.
You have to submit the Excel file with the problem setup, and you should also create an “Answers” sheet (within the same excel file) for the answers to the questions asked in the problem.
This problem has five questions, and you should submit for grading the answers to those five questions and the methods you used to get the solutions.

You have to submit the Excel file with the problem so that I can check your setup for the problem and the Solver. Please make sure you have two different Excel sheets for parts a. and e., as Excel only allows one Solver per sheet. You should also create an “Answers” sheet (within the same excel file) for the answers to the questions asked in the problem.
****Given that this problem is a continuation of the textbook example (pages 326-330), make sure you read the textbook before you start working on the homework problem.

Much has been written about the relationship between students’ SAT test scores and their family’s income. Generally speaking, there is a strong positive correlation between income and SAT scores. Consider and discuss the following questions as you respond:

What does this correlation tell you?
Is this correlation evidence that having a high family income causes one to have high SAT scores?
Is this correlation evidence that high SAT scores cause higher income? Or does this tell you something else? Explain your answer.
Explain why correlation alone is rarely sufficient to demonstrate cause.
Provide a personal example of two variables that may be correlated but not have a cause and effect relationship. Identify what type of bivariate correlation is involved, based on the measurement scales of the variables

The Lazer Company has a contract to produce a part for Boeing Corporation that must have an average diameter of 6 inches and a standard deviation of 0.10 inch. The Lazer Company has developed a process that will meet the specifications with respect to the standard deviation, but it is still trying to meet the mean specifications. A test run (considered a random sample) of parts was produced, and the company wishes to determine whether this latest process that produced the sample will produce parts meeting the requirement of an average diameter equal to 6 inches.

    Use Excel to:
    1. Construct the appropriate null and alternative hypotheses with correct parameters.
    2. Develop the decision rule assuming that the sample size is 200 parts and the significance level is 0.01.

    In a Word document:
    1. Recommend what the Lazer Company should conclude if the sample mean diameter for the 200 parts is 6.03 inches.
    2. Submit your recommendations in a Word document and attach your Excel file.

Topic Often times there are so many variables involved in a study that it is difficult to distinguish “causes”.

    Statistics Assignment Help Topic

Often times there are so many variables involved in a study that it is difficult to distinguish “causes”. For example, there is the belief that “smoking causes lung cancer”. I tend to believe this myself but my own mother was a chain smoker and never developed lung cancer. There are many other variables that might affect the outcome of lung cancer such as working conditions, heredity, diet, etc.

It is too hard to account for every “factor” in these circumstances so we might just focus on one such as studying lung cancer patients and asking them if they smoked or not.

In this discussion, you are going to come up with some example of the binomial probability distribution. Remember our definition:

    Def: Binomial probability distribution
    1. procedure has fixed # of trials
    2. trials must be independent
    3. each trial must have all outcomes classified into 2 categories
    4. probabilities must remain constant for each trial

For example, we interview 50 lung cancer patients (fixed # of trials). They come from all occupations and parts of the state (independence). Either they smoked or did not smoke (2 categories). If 15% of the population smokes then the probability would remain constant for each trial equaling 15% or 0.15. This would meet the conditions for a binomial probability distribution.

Come up with your own examples of a binomial probability distribution. It can be made up, you do not need actual numbers.

    stata Problem Set

Using our US Macro data, do the following (make sure your year and quarter variables are destringed like we did last week)
    a. First, run a hypothesis test looking at if the average unemployment rate (over all years) is different than 6. Write your null and alternative hypotheses. Interpret your results. Do they make sense to you?
    b. Now run a hypothesis test the average unemployment rate from 2008 – 2010 is different than 6. Write your null and alternative hypotheses. Interpret your results. Do they make sense to you?
    c. What is the 95% confidence interval for the unemployment rate between 2008
