Automobile Racing Competition Detailed Analysis Admission Essay Help

International competitiveness, testing the capabilities of specially designed automobiles and the skill of their drivers, over tracks and courses of differing lengths and construction, this is automobile racing. The first car race considered is the one held in France in July 1894, in which the winner averaged 24 kilometers per hour, when 100 automobiles set out from Paris to Rouen. The first race in North America was held in Chicago, Illinois, in the year 1895.  The excitement generated by the possibility of driving at higher and higher speeds has made automobile racing one of the world’s major spectator and participant sports. Early races were held in two forms; pure speed races and the others tested engine reliability, which later became known as rallies. In rallies, cars attempt to achieve and maintain a set speed between points. The first races were held on public roads, but with increasing concern for spectator safety, special closed-circuit tracks were built for rally racing. The most common racing track is a paved oval with banked corners, from 200 m to 4000 m in length. The difference between road and track racing ultimately led also to different vehicle construction; four major types of racing cars are now built. Pure racing machines, such as those used in Grand PrixFormula 1and in Indycar, are built for power and endurance at speeds of more than 320 km/h (200 MPH).  In the past stock cars used to be production automobiles modified for track racing, but are built now solely for the purpose of racing. Sports cars used for racing, such as rallies, may be either rebuilt production vehicles or pure racing machines. Drag racers are cars built to accelerate rapidly to high speeds over very short straight tracks, or drag strips, generally about 400 m (3 mi) long.

The race most popularly associated with the sport is the Indianapolis 500, so called because contestants must cover 500 mi(about 805 km); it has been held annually on Memorial Day weekend since 1911.  With crowds averaging 400,000, it is the best-attended single-day sports event in the world.  This year the Indy 500 will not involve most teams from IndycarCART, Championship Auto Racing

Teams, the regulatory body which is now being opposed by the IRL, Indycar Racing League, whose owner also owns the Indy 500 track. The elite Grand Prix races are held at various international sites, such as São Paulo, Brazil, and Johannesburg, South Africa, and through the streets of Monte Carlo, Monaco. Points scored by winners of these races are totaled to establish the world champion driver. The 24-hour race at Le Mans, France, is the most famous road endurance race. The annual stock car Daytona 500 in Florida and the U.S. Nationals for drag racing at Indianapolis Raceway Park are classics in their respective fields.

Growth in auto racing has shifted away from producing speed.  Today the engineers of racing are not focusing their efforts to generate more speed, but to improve cornering speeds, fuel economy and the braking of the their creations.  Straight away speeds have not risen significantly since the 1960’s.  In spite of this, racing cars have shaved seconds off previous track or course records each year due to advances in aerodynamics, brakes, tires and chassis design.  Wings, which first appeared in the mid-1960’s, were a major development allowing speed to increase but  also allowing the car to be safe for the driver.  Wings are basically airplane wings turned upside down.  Instead of lifting, the wings force the car down.  Today because of the downforce provided by wings, an Indycar can run upside down on the ceiling.  Due to theimprovement  in car design which has led to faster speeds, but also several deaths, many racing organizations are changing rules for the safety of the drivers.  Such  examples are NASCAR implementing restrictor plates to slow the cars,  Formula 1 changing from methanol burning engines to gasoline burning engines, and Indycar adding pop-off valves, which open if engine pressure is to high thus exposing the engine to atmospheric pressure and leading to low power production form the engine.

Auto racing advancement and research has also helped the commercial automobile industry.  The majority of the worlds auto makers have one or more

entries in the 24-hours at Le Mans race.  This race is chosen because the strain put on the car could equal strain put on a car by an average

consumer in a year or more.  This can show the immediate reliability of new or

revised components.  The auto makers may test new engines, chassis,

or something as simple as head lights.  The turbocharger got its start in racing. The turbo uses exhaust gases to spin a turbine.  This then turns

a compressor fan that  will compress air as it enters the engine.  More air is then in the combustion chamber and it is also under pressure. When fuel is added and the mixture is ignited, the compressed air will provide more power than an uncompressed combustion.

As time has passed safety of the car has followed directly behind improvements in performance of racing cars.  Race tracks and courses are lined with

safety barriers to stop a car if it gets off the track out of control.  Drivers wear flame retardant clothing from head to toe, even undergarments must be flame retardant.  The bodies of the cars are made to fall to pieces on contact.  This is better than the car remaining in one piece because more of the force of  impact is absorbed by the car and not the driver.  The hardest known material is used to make the chassis and body, carbon, but in a form called carbon fiber.  This is safe because parts of the car are less likely to break off from the car.  These pieces are a great hazard to all drivers who are on track at the same time.

As the popularity of  automobile racing continues to rise, the quality of all people involved in racing will follow suit.  Developments and competition in recent years have led to revolution in the racing world as competing leagues strive to become the world’s racing authority.

The technology in racing becomes updated and remodeled each year which will ultimately see its way into the consumer world.

Automobiles- Their Effect on our Live best college essay help: best college essay help

If we didn’t have automobiles, then our lives would be very different and maybe even difficult. If we didn’t have automobiles, then you would probably have to walk and  it would be longer getting to where you wanted to   Automobiles also put out toxic fumes that pollute our air.  If we didn’t have automobiles, then there would be a lot of places we would not be able to see. Automobiles are a big opportunity for us.

Automobiles are also used  for fun things like entertainment. You can listen to radios in them and also the Nascar industry. People racecars for a living and some mechanics fix them for a living.

There is also a danger in them. Have you ever heard the saying “Highways are Dieways”? There are so many people dying in automobile-related accidents. People are always in a hurry, so they speed, run a red light, or drive on the wrong side of the road.

They are also used for some good. If we didn’t have them and someone needed to go to the hospital, then they might not make it in time. There is also expensive, like tickets if you run a red light or if you have a wreck and you have to pay for the service on it.

Automobiles are an expense and also a danger, but I am sure glad we have them. They make our lives so much easier. Without them, you can see where we would be. Thank goodness for automobiles!

The Automotive Industry is one of the largest industries instant essay help: instant essay help

Transportation needs are something that affects all of us. In the automotive industry there are several production types, parts, accessories, vans, mini vans, trucks, SUV’s, compacts, sedans, sports, and luxuries. There are over 30 different manufacturing automotive companies. Many of these companies have merged and have part ownership of each other. The two largest companies today are GMC #1     and Ford Motor Company #2. Ford and GMC both consist of about ten companies each. Sales of these cars are done form companies to dealers and dealers to consumers. Consumers can do this over the     Internet or at a dealer. In 1998 Internet sales were 80 billion and expected to be 726 billion by 2003. The     Internet seems to be a convenience because you don’t have to find your vehicle and deal with sales men. You can even have it delivered at your door for a similar cost. The Internet decreases incremental marketing, advertising, and personal cost per sale. Prices range from the lowest to around ten thousand and highest around one hundred thousand. The average car today runs about twenty-five thousand dollars new.

There are many factors in the price of cars. Prices rise when options become standard like airbags, safety standards and emission controls become strict. When consumers demands fluctuate prices go up and down. When sales go down automakers offer rebates and discounts to bring them up again. Also, the demand factor goes up when the economic growth and employment are good. Also, safety, style, and engineering help sell cars. Having a name is important also. Safety captures every buyer’s interest because of the great danger of driving. Scrap rates also help sell cars because getting beaters of the road causes people to buy new cars. Twelve and a half million cars were scrapped since     1998. This made sales grow greatly. Over the years there have been around 125 million cars less than three years old on the road. This shows how people continue to want new cars and that business will never completely die. Before 1999 the US light vehicle market volume had stayed around 15 million units. In 1999 the record was set at 16.9 million units. Trucks, SUV’s, and mini-vans rose at 8.7 percent and production of these has grown. Hybrid vehicles of these three types have also begun in production.     Vehicles for sale now are the Chevy Avalanche, Ford Sport Trac, and the Pontiac Aztec. This industry operates in steps. First, the car is produced than sold to a dealer and then sold to a consumer.

Automobiles are built in factories in North and South America, Eastern and Western Europe, and Asia.     A major location in the US was cars are made in Detroit, Michigan the United States auto capital.     Another part of sales is replacement parts and accessories. This is a whole other part of a car dealer.

Money isn’t just made in sales but in repair and service. People like accessories and need service all the time. The world impacts this industry greatly. People, oil, and banks all take part in auto sales. If people aren ‘t making money then they can’t afford cars. If there is a bad reputation for a company people wont buy either. If banks aren’t giving low loan rates then cars won’t sell because people can’t afford them. If oil prices are high then people are going to want efficient cars and also they will choose public transportation. All these factors have to stay stable and they will keep the economy flowing. Also, the companies have to be competitive and produce cars as cheap and safe as possible. The US industry also try to beat foreign company competition cars will produce cheaper if companies merge and have to concentrate on less competition. This industry usually stays strong when our economy is strong.

The     United States economy seems to keep growing and long with the automotive industry. Each year more cars are sold and profits keep going up. Sales have reached record marks and 2000 is looking good for this industry. Technology is so advanced and everyone wants new cars. People and economies are doing well which will lead the industry of cars to continue to uproar like a bull market. I     have chosen to give a capsule on Ford and Mitsubishi. Ford Motor Company is the #2 Automotive leader of the nation. Ford was founded and began production in 1903. It first produced the Model A.     twelve investors produce a 28,000 dollar company. In 1908 the model T was invented and more than 10,000 were sold for $825. In 1913 ford introduced the assembly line and was able to produce a model t     every ten seconds. In 1920 60 percent of all vehicles are Fords. Ford had a 58 million dollar debt and was able to pay it off with there 80 million dollars in cash, 1921. Henry Ford raises the company’s minimum wage to $6 dollars a day in 1935. 1946 Ford takes a hit and has losses at a rate of 10 million a     month. In 1946 Henry Ford dies but bye 1946 Ford brought its profits up to $177 million dollars.

In     1958 the company lost 250 million dollars in low sales of the Edsel a very expensive car. Bye 1983 Ford had to lay off 33% of the workforce and experienced a 658 million dollar loss. Ford invents top-selling     Taurus in 87. In the last ten years, Ford has continued to grow and now owns Aston Martin, Ford,     Jaguar, Land Rover, Lincoln, part of Mazda, Mercury, Think, and Volvo. They have gone through there usual ups and downs. Right now Ford is number 2 but has plans to pass GMC up. It employs about 370,000 people and pays its CEO 6 million a year. Financially they are doing well. It is going threw a struggle over a Tire crisis right know. Ford is going to take a loss due to Firestone. Both companies new about a problem in atx tires for at least two years. It is in defect for 6.5 milliontires. Ford     is doing everything it can to fix the problem and plans to but Michelin tires on all 2002 Explorers. This     affects both companies greatly and make them look bad. Stocks have dropped and the problem still     hasn’t been completely fixed.

General information on financial and stocks is located in these charts….     (seen at end of report) as you can see the company goes up and down with the economy. Mitsubishi is     a smaller company in the industry. It dates back to the 1920’s when it started making engines and     aircraft’s. The company continued to grow and in 1964 the company had 77,000 employees and $700     million in sales. Chrysler Corp. took over 15% of Mitsubishi in 1971 and started selling Mitsubishi in the     US In 1982 Mitsubishi invested in Hyundai. Revenue reaches 1 trillion dollars in March of 83. Mitsubishi     launches its first commercial on television while trying to reach its goal of increasing sales by 40% in     1989. In 1992 the agreement with Daimler-Benz group remained limited to several Mitsubishi dealers     selling Mercedes Benzes. Chrysler finally sold its 2 percent share in 1993 and both continued to buy     from each other. Mitsubishi remained the worlds third largest automotive company. 1996 Mitsubishi     planned for a 10% reduction in workforce by 2000. This year Daimler took over 34% of Mitsubishi.

Also     discovered that Mitsubishi admitted that it had been concealing consumercomplaints about defects since     1977. Said it secretly repaired cars to avoid recall. It has recalled 620,000 vehicles and was banned for 18     months from selling cars. This company owes 1.47 trillion dollars and faces criminal charges. This kills its     stock and make Mitsubishi tumble down. General information on financial and stocks is located in these     charts…. (seen at end of report) as you can see the company goes up and down with the economy.

Buying stock is a major decision. Every company goes through its up and downs. Buying is like     gambling and you either make money or u don’t. Buying in Ford seems logical to me. Ford has     continued to up roar with economy over the last 100 years. Mitsubishi doesn’t seem to be such a great     companies to buy stock with. It is at a greater fall right now and may not roar again like Ford. Ford     seems to be a sure money making investment if you have time. It has went up and down a few times     but still remains one of the best.

AUTONOMY VS PATERNALISM IN MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT custom essay help: custom essay help

The assignment for this Ethics class was to review Mr. Jacob’s treatment, as described by the

New York State Commission on Quality of Care for the mentally disabled (1994).  The class was further asked to comment on the major issues for each of the three perspectives. The agencies, family and review board were to be included.  This student will begin with a fourth perspective; that of Mr. Gordon.

In the Matter of Jacob Gordon (1994), is the story of the last eight years of a psychiatrically disabled man’s life.  Mr. Gordon appeared to vacillate between striving for autonomy and accepting the support of his family.  Unfortunately, it appeared by this account that the family’s support was not synonymous with autonomy.  It did not appear that Mr. Gordon had ever desired or sought agency intervention for himself.  Mr. Gordon’s association with the mental health system appeared to be marked by power and control issues.  “Consumers/ex-patients often report a feeling of “invisibility”; they sense that their views and desires do not matter (Carling, 1995, p.79).

The commission’s report (1995) spoke of several incidences where Mr. Gordon eluded to his desire for autonomy.  Mr. Gordon did not wish to live in a supervised setting.  Mr. Gordon did not wish to attend group day treatment settings.  Mr. Gordon did not wish to use the medication in the treatment of his mental health disorder.  Without medication, his behavior was deemed unacceptable and did not permit him the opportunity to have any of these choices. “Choice is aright-not a privilege to be afforded by good behavior (Penny, 1994, p. 29).”  Mr. Gordon’s right to ofchoice was limited even though he lived in his apartment independently.  The condition of his apartment was scrutinized.  His medication was closely monitored; sometimes to the degree that he was directed to leave his home to receive medication that was given to him crushed, in an attempt to ensure its ingestion.  “Even people’s liberties in a highly controlled board and care home may be scarcely greater than in a hospital ward (Rubenstien, 1994, p.54).”  In Mr. Gordon’s case even within the sanctity of his own home, his liberties were scarcely greater than in a hospital ward.

Other than his autonomy the second issue for Mr. Gordon appears to be the need for safety and support.  For this, Mr. Gordon turned to his family.  The report (1994) points out that Mr.

Gordon requested his mother be limited in her ability to access personal information.  He continued to need her support and assistance although this met she continued to be overly involved in his life.  It was his mother he turned to when he had problems with a roommate.  It was his mother who was utilized when Mr. Gordon was less compliant.  It was Mr. Gordon’sfamily who assured that he had continued mental health counseling and services.  It was also Mr.Gordon’s family who appeared to be the focal point of any plans for Mr. Gordon.

“………… Expectations, soon to be dashed by programs more devoted to servicing neurotic families than people with schizophrenia” (Rubenstien, 1994, p.55).      Mr. Gordon remained safe and close to his family by relinquishing his autonomy.

Mr. Gordon’s safety was the most important issue for the family.  Secondarily to his safety, Mr.

Gordon’s family wished him to have the opportunity to participate in programming that would assist in his wellness.  For Mr. Gordon’s family, wellness seemed to equate to a standard of behavior that his mother personally viewed as normal.

The family was not bound to any code of ethics or compelled to understand their biases or prejudices in their son’s case.  Certainly, to say that the family operated on the premise of paternalism is an understatement.  Ethically, Gordon’s believed that they were the most justified to speak in the best interests of their son.  The energy that Gordon’s put into advocating for what they believed, was in their son’s best interest, is a testimony to the depth of the feelings they had for their son.

The agency’s primary issues appeared to be their liability and responsibility. Looking at the commission’s report and attached responses from agencies (1995), it appears as though all of the agencies and practitioners involved were overly respectful of the involvement of Mr. Gordon’sfamily.  This over-involvement with Mr. Gordon’s mother was understandable when it was disclosed that she had complained to state officials, whenever agencies did not respond in a way that she believed to be acceptable.  It appears as though Mrs. Gordon understood very well, who to speak with and what to include as pertinent information when she desired action.  As the case proceeded, it became evident that Mrs. Gordon was the most active planner of her son’s services.

“Exaggerated fears and misconceptions associated with a lawsuit in high-risk clinical situations rarely bring out the best quality in practitioners. (Corey, Corey, &Callanan, 1993,p. 117).        In actuality, the agencies involved were far more open to a lawsuit in terms of the lack of information that they choose to divulge to their client, Mr. Gordon.  “A precaution of a malpractice suit, personal and professional honesty and openness with clients (Corey, et al., 1993,

p.131).”

Mr. Gordon never had the right to choose any of his treatments.  He was never given all of the information concerning the selection of choices of services, or the possible consequences of his choices.  Rooney (1992) points out the need for close scrutiny of ethics whenever agencies interfere with a client’s autonomy.  In an attempt to plan in Mr. Gordon’s best interest, appeasers. Gordon and become less liable for any poor outcomes to the treatment plan, the agencies acted paternalistically.  Agencies imposed paternalism in each of the ways cited by Rooney (1992), by opposing Mr. Gordon’s wishes of no medication.  The agencies withheld information about the possible side effects of the medication he took, and the consequences of not taking medication.

The agencies provided deliberate misinformation by allowing Mr. Gordon to believe that they were excluding his mother from the planning process.

Agencies were also concerned with their own perceived responsibilities for Mr. Gordon’s plan.

Unfortunately, each agency chooses to give as much responsibility as possible to Mr. Gordon’sfamily.  As the history of Mr. Gordon’s treatment unfolded, it appeared evident that Mrs. Gordonwas responsible for the development and supervision of Mr. Gordon’s care.  She coordinated all of the service providers and was the main contact from one provider to the next.  She became the”enforcer” for the plan, and who was ultimately consulted if Mr. Gordon refused to cooperate. Agencies became more controlling of Mr. Gordon’s life (in response to Mrs. Gordon’s concerns), Mr. Gordon became more non-compliant.  “Ethical dilemmas arise when there are conflicts of responsibilities.  For instance, when the agency’s expectations conflict with the concerns or wishes of the clients (Corey et al., p.135).”  It appears that toward the end of Mr. Gordon’s life, none of the agencies were involved in a team approach in the delivery of services to this man.  Each agency was involved in doing what they believed they were mandated to do for Mr. Gordon and relied on donors. Gordon to coordinate and collaborate when necessary.

The review board appeared to be most vested in singling out an agency to pronounce responsible for the problems in the care of Mr. Gordon.  Sundram (1994) writes of the changing paradigm from medical models of care to a client-centered approach to delivering services.

Ironically, speaking on behalf of the same commission who wrote the review of Mr. Gordon, Mr.

Sundram focuses on the need for changes within the rank and file of service providers to empower consumers.  “We need to focus on ways to promote informed, voluntary choices of people with disabilities, to provide options that allow them to meet self-identified needs” (Sundram, 1994, p.8).

Yet in its’ report about Mr. Gordon (1995), the commission pointed out the agency’s deficits in attempting to assure Mr. Gordon’s medication compliance and his compliance with exams necessary to remain safely on medication.  Mr. Gordon was reported by the commission to have voiced his desire to discontinue any medication for his psychiatric disorder.

The commission recommended that if family involvement becomes an issue that agencies deal with the families with the same diligence as other consumer issues.  Yet, it appears that Mrs.

Gordon had much more power than the consumer.  Mrs. Gordon called the state office of mental health when she was dissatisfied.  Agencies seem to have paid much diligent attention to this family.  Yet, the commission and the Office of Mental Health believed that the family needed even a greater amount of attention within Mr. Gordon’s care plan.

Ironically, it seems that one of the families’ issues in the care of Mr. Gordon was his compliance with medication.  The family advocated for agency involvement and paid for private psychiatric intervention.  Dr. Surles (1994) the Commissioner of the Office of Mental Health writes a year prior to this report (1995), a compelling piece on the balance and contradictions of choice and safety.  He clearly defines himself as a proponent for choice.  Dr. Surles (1994) writes”We cannot demand that the public mental health system insure recipient’s choice and still guarantee recipient’s safety (p. 21).”  “I simply want to note that, in the area of treatment, recipient choice means not just the right to refuse treatment, but the right to have access to treatment from which to choose (p. 22)”.  In responding to the concerns of Mrs. Gordon regarding her son’s access to services, I am surprised that there is no mention by the commission to the message that agencies serving Mr. Gordon received from the Office of Mental Health’s intervention.  I further question the level of the Office of Mental Health’s investigation into the choices of Mr. Gordon in relationship to his family’s wishes for his safety.

The commission appears to be desirous to place responsibility on agencies, for Mr. Gordon’schoices.  The flavor of this feels as unjust as the responsibility his family feels, and as unjust as the lack of choice Mr. Gordon felt.  “Both professionals and recipients are trapped in a system that gives professionals too much responsibility and requires them to be accountable for too much(Penny, 1994, p.31).”

The major conflict between the issues of choice, safety, liability, and responsibility is an aphilosophical conflict between autonomy and paternalism.  Is freedom of choice a right that is truly inalienable and if so then should this right ever be abridged for paternalism?  If the choice is the right of every citizen than all parties involved in the case of Jacob Gordon acted in an unethical and/or immoral way.  The family looked upon their child as less than a human “To deny an individual autonomy is to treat that person as less than human. (Atkinson, 1991, p.106)”.  The family was abusive to this person that they claimed was the object of their concern.  Jacob was disrespectful and abusive to himself, in that he traded his autonomy for safety and belonging. “it is more important for humankind to exert free will than it is to be contented (Atkinson, 1991, p.105).”  In this regard, Mr. Gordon could be considered incompetent, since he was not interested in providing for himself the basic rights of his culture.  The agencies involved with Mr. Gordon were unethical:  counselors “must recognize the need for client freedom of choice (Corey et al., p. 400)”, psychologists “respect the rights of individuals to privacy, confidentiality, self-

determination, and autonomy (Corey et al., p. 415)”, and social workers ” make every effort to foster maximum self-determination on the part of clients (Corey et al., p. 430)”.  The Commission on Quality of care was the most unethical, as it is the mission of this agency to “require providers and appropriate state agency officials to respond to the Commission findings, and to provide periodic reports on the implementation of  Commission findings, and to provide periodic reports on the implementation of Commission recommendations ( Pamphlet, New York State

Commission).  The recommendations that suggested more supervision not only spoke to the issues of autonomy former. Gordon, but for many other consumers served by the providers involved in this study and trained with this information.

If paternalism is a societal obligation then Mr. Gordon was miserably under-served, and all parties involved in his care were irresponsible, unethical and liable for not keeping Mr. Gordonsafe.  The true measure of safety for Mr. Gordon would have been long term hospitalization where all of his needs could have been met.

It is sad to read case studies of people struggling with normalizing life within a society that is uncertain of the issues involved in living with a psychiatric disability.  My sympathy lies with Mr.

Gordon, his family, and the providers involved with services for Mr. Gordon.  I am sorry that the field of psychology is so tentative about the types of treatment that assist people in recovering from mental illness.  Mr. Gordon certainly never appeared to be relieved from his symptoms to a degree that was comfortable during the years reported.  His goals were aimed at normalizing his life, the same goals as every other player in this tragedy.  Mr. Gordon’s objectives in reaching that goal were at odds with the other members of his treatment team.

The Gordon family certainly deserves recognition for the role they played in being available and supportive of Mr. Gordon’s recovery.  Mrs. Gordon seems the type of person that would have done anything to assist her son in his wellness, anything except risk harm to him. I empathize with her feeling of fear that her son was not receiving what he needed.

The psychiatrist involved in Mr. Gordon’s care seems to be rather mysterious, as we have little information about this provider.  Frustration is inevitable when dealing month on end with a patient that shows little progress in diminishing the symptoms of his illness. Regardless of the amount of success therapy yielded the doctor never abandoned his client.  As Mrs. Gordon was extremely pro-active in her son’s treatment, the doctor’s persistence was undoubtedly great.

Lastly, the service providers worked reportedly countless hours to assist Mr. Gordon in becoming independent.  In spite of the labyrinth of rules and regulations and concerns for the conduct, these people gave Mr. Gordon unconditional care.  The report reflects the maneuvering agency staff attempted to assist Mr. Gordon in accepting care that they believed would give him the lifestyle he wanted.  I suspect that each of those agencies, at one time, gave Mr. Gordon all they could to assure his autonomy and his safety.  Since these concepts do not mix, they worked futile effort and likely were aware of this.

Mr. Gordon’s case will become important in the way services are delivered, when either the laws provide for consumers’ rights to choices and responsibilities, or agencies’ obligations to make choices and become responsible for the consumer’s safety.

“Can’t you give me brains?” asked the scarecrow.

“You don’t need them.  You are learning something every day.  A baby has brains, but it doesn’t know much.  Experience is the only thing that brings knowledge, and the longer you are on earth the more you are sure to get”

Autoparts Sales & Inventory Management Data Model cheap essay help: cheap essay help

The selling of automotive aftermarket replacement parts is both a retail enterprise selling to consumers and a wholesale operation selling parts to repair shops and other resellers. In consideration of the diverse customer base, this data model will be developed so that sales of auto parts either retail or wholesale can be recorded and tracked electronically.

In addition, stock inventory levels will be monitored electronically with this model and an automated stock replenishment mechanism implemented. Due to time constraints, this model will be a stripped down version only pertaining to the sales and inventory functions. The current design does allow for further development and the addition of other components.

Since the heart of an auto parts store is in its inventory of parts we will begin with an explanation of how the inventory is managed.  By the use of the MinQuantity field in the Inventory table the system will be able to indicate a low stock level once the quantity in stock is equal to or less than the minimum quantity specified by the MinQuantity attribute. At this point a View for Inventory can be generated to display inventory items whose quantity levels are below their specified minimum. This Reorder_View can be used by the system to generate purchase orders to vendors whose contact data and address are stored in the table named ‘Vendor’.  Just as the Inventory table contains all the attributes for any given part the Vendor tabled does the same for all vendors.

To complete the description of the model that will be created we will now discuss the sales tracking process.  Once a sale is made, a record of that sale is recorded in the

Daily_Sales table.  A transaction number to be associated with this sale will be generated then used as part of the identifier for this sale. The store number and part number are also part of this unique identifier.  From this record a sales invoice/receipt can be created and printed. But for all purposes this process of generated a sales record then generating a receipt will appear to be simultaneous.  At the end of each day the contents of the Daily_Sales table will be appended to the Sales_History table and Daily_Sales will be truncated.

In support of the sales tracking and invoice generating process five other entities must be created, they are;  ‘Customer’,  ‘Employee’, ‘Store’, ‘Pricing’, and ‘Transaction.’The Customer table will record the customer data, Employee contains store employee data, the store number and address attributes are recorded in Store , Pricing contains information on how to price retail and wholesale sales, and Transaction is used to record the Transaction number.

There are two sequences created to provide for surrogate keys, they are:Trans and PO_Number.  Trans is the sequence that is implemented to created the

Transaction number for the Transaction entity and sequence PO_Number was created to provide a unique identifier for purchase orders. In Part 3 of this assignment we continue to refine the Data Model and confirm that referential integrity actions work as defined. As of this point the model has been

implemented into Oracle 9i and data entered into tables. The functionality of triggers, views and other components are being tested.

Inventory:                  Contains information on all items to be sold.

Customer:                  Customer information both retail and wholesale buyers.

Vendor:                      Suppliers of items in Inventory.

Employee:                 Contains store employee information.

Store:                          Store location and description.

Invoice:                      Receipt given to customer for items purchased.

Invoice_Line_ItemIndividual  items purchased per invoice.

Reorder_View                      A view of Inventory for rows where Quantity =   Quantity and OnOrder = ‘F’;

The following trigger code is an Insert trigger that fires before insert intoDaily_Sales. Its function is to retrieve the next value from the Trans sequence and insert that value into the Transaction entity. This newly generated  number is then used for the Transaction number for the row to be inserted into Daily_Sales. This trigger generates the new number if the new value for the field IT is ‘T’. The ‘T’ indicating that this insert is a new transaction. If the new value for the IT filed is ‘F’, indicating that the new insert is not a new transaction, then the current value for the sequence is inserted for Transaction_No into create or replace trigger TI_DailycheckTrans insert into Transaction (Transaction_No)

SELECT TRANS.CURRVAL INTO :new.Transaction_no

SELECT TRANS.CURRVAL INTO :new.Transaction_no

Avagadro born Lorenzo Romano Amadeo Carlo Avogadro essay help writer: essay help writer

Avagadro was born Lorenzo Romano Amadeo Carlo Avogadro.  Now it is obvious why he just went by AmedeoAvagadro!  He was born in Turnin, Italy to a very wealthy family of lawyers.  When he was only sixteen years old, he had already earned his bachelor of jurisprudence.  Four years later he then gained his doctorate degree and began to practice law.  Although Avagadro had a very successful legal career, he was still interested in natural philosophy.  He decided to study physics and mathematics privately.  His first scientific research was conducted on electricity with the help of his brother, Felice.  In 1809, Avagadro became a professor of natural philosophy at the college of Vercelli.

In 1811, Avagadro published an article in Journal de physique that drew the distinction between the atom and the molecule.  He stated that Dalton had confused concepts of molecules and atoms.  Avagadro stated that “equal volumes of all gases at the same temperature and pressure contain the same number of molecules”, which is known now as Avogadro’s Principle. Avogadro’s work went neglected until it was presented by StanislaoCannizarro at the Karlsruhe Conference in 1860 where he showed that Avogadro’s Principle could not only determine molar mass but also that is could determine atomic mass.

The idea of the mole was introduced long after Avogadro.  A molecular weight in grams of any substance contains the same number of molecules, and then according to Avogadro’s Principle, the molar volumes of all gases should then be the same.  So now the number of molecules in one mole is called Avogadro’s number.  The number wasn’t actually determined by Avogadro and he had no knowledge of moles.  The value of Avogadro’s number is 6.0221367 x 1023.  This is actually an extremely large number.  An illustration to help you see how big this number actually is, would be if Avogadro’s number was the number of standard soft drink cans, they would cover the surface of the earth to a depth of ever 200 miles!
