LE#1 MGT 6170 – Operations Management

Learning Engagement # 1Topic: Typical Supply Chain?
Our reading this week presents the typical or traditional supply chain model (see figure 1.1). I Analyze this traditional figure as is by applying it, step-step, to a company/organization you are familiar with. This needs to be supported with two authored sources.
Professor’s Guidance:
And now the fun part. Has this typical supply chain model changed in the last 18 months? How and why or why not? If you were to re-structure and define the new typical supply chain, how would it look? You do not need to design a graphic however, you must include details, such as names of new factors and influencers and why you support these new components of the typical supply chain model as you know it. Images and photographs and encouraged.

Management Assignment Help Learning Engagement # 2
Topic:

In today’s digital age, the consideration of process design has become a major emphasis of the manufacturing and service industries around the globe. Just thinking of the product and service elements in as obsolete. In light of global competition and general concerns about the compliance with our environment and corporate social responsibility, companies need to think of the process starting at the suppliers and ending at the customers with the cash conversion process in between. All components of this entire chain of events must be combined into a huge process where everything affects everything. A few years ago, this all-inclusive view was not possible at all. It simply was too complex. But with advanced computing capacities and data storage capabilities this all-inclusive view can be mastered comfortably. This does not just end with computerized data storage and processing, it leads inherently to process automation. CEO’s are not interested in the data alone, they want to know what the data mean for their business in terms of sales and financial performance. Thus, process automation is the core of today’s trend in the commercial world.

Professor’s Guidance:

Companies like SAP, Apple and Google are working hard to develop the software that enables companies to enjoy automated processes. But that alone is not enough, robotics are part of the enormous trend toward automation. Using AI technologies and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) the industry is moving toward machine learning, smart machines, smart factories, and smart cities.
Will services follow the trend of manufacturing in being outsourced and offshore from industrial countries to developing countries? Are all services at risk of being offshore?
Please discuss this topic in the context of the trend known as Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), which we discussed in class. Is there possibly a reversal of outsourcing and offshoring trends? How does this look to leaders of OM? (a minimum of two academic sources are required).
