Violent TV and Crime
Studies have shown that the more violent TV a child watches when they’re younger, the more likely they are to commit a crime when they’re adults.
TV and Attention
For every one hour on average that a three-year-old watches, they are 10% more likely to have attentional problems when they’re aged seven. Candy and Crime
One study carried out in the UK found that children who ate candy every day were more likely to commit crimes when they were older.
In this discussion, explain why you think any of these studies would be a good study or not. Can you prove causation in any of the studies? If you think it is not a good study, how would you improve it? Why do we have to be careful when reading research in the news? Can you recall any correlations reported recently in the news? What are the various possible causal relationships related to this correlation? What can you conclude about reading research that is NOT in a peer-reviewed scientific journal?

In the media introduction to this module, it was suggested that you as a nurse h college essay help near meIn the media introduction to this module, it was suggested that you as a nurse have an important role in the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC). With a focus on patient care and outcomes, nurses may not always see themselves as contributors to the development of new systems. However, as you may have observed in your own experience, exclusion of nurse contributions when implementing systems can have dire consequences.
In this Discussion, you will consider the role you might play in systems development and the ramifications of not being an active participant in systems development.
To Prepare:
Review the steps of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) as presented in the Resources.
Reflect on your own healthcare organization and consider any steps your healthcare organization goes through when purchasing and implementing a new health information technology system.
Consider what a nurse might contribute to decisions made at each stage of the SDLC when planning for new health information technology.
Post a description of what you believe to be the consequences of a healthcare organization not involving nurses in each stage of the SDLC when purchasing and implementing a new health information technology system. Provide specific examples of potential issues at each stage of the SDLC and explain how the inclusion of nurses may help address these issues. Then, explain whether you had any input in the selection and planning of new health information technology systems in your nursing practice or healthcare organization and explain potential impacts of being included or not in the decision-making process. Be specific and provide examples.
Case 1: ABC Foods (30 marks)
At the ABC Foods, there are store associates, cooks best college essay helpCase 1: ABC Foods (30 marks)
At the ABC Foods, there are store associates, cooks, pastry chefs, supervisors and managers. The company operates at four locations in Toronto. The store makes some ready-to-go meals and baked goods which are quite popular. The company is a classical firm which offers food products at a competitive price. Store associates rotate between working on the floor stocking products and working at cash. Store associates are paid at \$ 17.50 an hour with statutory benefits. Cooks and pastry chefs are paid at slightly higher levels based on their experience. There are 60 store associates and the company has dealing with high turnover in this group since the pandemic.
Each department has one or two clean-up employees who clean the offices and also take care of the washrooms, hallways, and other areas. The cleaning job has the lowest status of any job in the store and the store has had difficulty getting enough cleaners. The pay for cleaners is based on a flat hourly rate of \$16 with statutory benefits.
There are 10 cleaners in all. They report to the supervisors of the departments in which they work, but the supervisors are very dissatisfied with them. A common complaint is that as soon as a cleaner knows what is expected on the job and learns to do it right, he or she quits. Moreover, the cleaners are frequently absent and often come late. Given there is a pandemic, the supervisors are very concerned about the increased sanitation requirements and the possibility of a Covid-19 outbreak.
Recently there was an outbreak at a store and the store was shut down for 2 weeks for clean-up.
Discuss the compensation related consequences of employee behaviours and attitudes for the company specifically as it relates to the two employee groups. (10 marks)
Recommend changes ABC Food Works can make to its rewards system to address these problems and how would the company introduce these changes. (10 marks)
Case 2: Plastco Packaging Case
Plastco Packaging Ltd. is a medium-sized manufacturer of plastic bags, located on the West Coast. These bags are used in the retail sector for purposes ranging from groceries to clothing and other goods. These bags are made from a variety of types of plastic and in a variety of sizes, depending on the intended purpose. Usually, the retailer’s name is printed on them.
There are three main phases in the bag-manufacturing process: (1) producing the plastic sheeting (produced as rolls of tubing); (2) printing the retailer’s name on the tubing; and (3) passing the rolls of tubing through bag-making machines that cut and seal the tubing into bag lengths.
This case focuses on the third step of the production process, the bag-making department. The department has 12 bag-making machines. Each machine operates semi-automatically but has to be manually loaded, set for the type of bag to be produced, started, monitored, and adjusted. The machines need frequent servicing to replace the cutting knives, adjust slipping belts, and lubricate the many moving parts. These functions and major repairs, when necessary, are carried out by mechanics from the maintenance department, a separate department reporting to the plant manager. The mechanics report machinery problems and future re-placement and servicing needs to the maintenance supervisor, who reports significant problems to the plant manager. The plant manager then conveys any implications for production of bags to the bag-making super-visor.
There are six bag-making machine operators, with each operator tending two machines. There are also six inspectors/packers, who inspect the bags to ensure quality and pack them into boxes. Defective bags are thrown into waste bins, based on the type of plastic. They are then melted down and remanufactured. Whenever an inspector/packer discovers poor-quality output, she must notify the operator to correct the problem. If the inspector/packer deems waste to be excessive, she is expected to report the operator to the bag-making supervisor.
In addition, four utility workers handle miscellaneous tasks, such as delivering rolls of plastic tubing and hauling boxes of finished bags to the shipping department. Traditionally, operators and utility workers have always been male, while inspectors/packers have always been female.
The plant is unionized, and pay is based on an hourly wage. Operators receive approximately \$28 per hour, utility workers \$21 per hour, and inspectors/packers \$14 per hour. Overall, benefits constitute about 20 percent of total compensation and increase with seniority.
The bag-making supervisor sees a number of problems at present. First is the high turnover among the inspectors/packers, as high as 100 percent a year. Turnover among the utility workers is about one-third of that, and lower than that among operators, who quit or retire at the rate of about one a year. Second, while the department usually meets the minimum production levels, the bag-making supervisor believes that productivity could be much higher.
He also believes there’s a high level of waste. However, whenever he questions an operator about this, the operator either blames maintenance for doing a poor job servicing the machines or the inspectors/packers for being unnecessarily fussy. All in all, there are very poor interpersonal relationships among the operators, mechanics, and inspectors/packers. Few members of the department appear to enjoy being at work.
Another problem is that customers are complaining about inconsistent quality in the products they receive. Sometimes the bags are of very high quality, but at other times, many bags are defective.
1) Management at the company is considering changing to a merit-based rewards system to address the employee related problems and to improve production. Your answers must consider all three employee groups at Plastco.
An option being considered is to change the compensation to gain-sharing or goal-sharing plan. Discuss the fundamental ways in which gain-sharing and goal-sharing plans differ. Which one of these plans would you recommend for Plastco and why? (20 marks)
Describe key elements of performance management which might be helpful in addressing the employee related problems at Plastco. (10 marks)
Any answers should come from the text book “Strategic Compensation in Canada by Long, Singh 6th edition”

“To
recall that memorable scene now, more than thirty-five years after the making
of the film, is to recognize its impossibility. For if ever there were a Han
Solo, in the near or distant future, his assumption about interplanetary
objects are certain to be very different from those that prevailed in
California at the time when the film was made. The humans of the future will
surely understand, knowing what they presumably will know about the history of
their forebears on Earth, that only in one, very brief era, lasting less than
three centuries, did a significant number of their kind believe that planets
and asteroids are inert” (Ghosh 3).
In

cosmological or metaphysical understandings of the world (how it works, what it

cosmological understanding and representation.

Find something in the room where you are at this moment and define it in terms o college admission essay helpFind something in the room where you are at this moment and define it in terms of complexity and emergence. Be sure to address the four defining features of a complex entity that we discussed in class and that you (hopefully) read about in the article “On Complexity and Emergence.” Describe in detail the emergent features that arise from your object.
Topics might be things as simple as coffee, or your hand, or a light bulb, or a piece of art, or a book, or a chair. (Don’t use objects that are the products of chemistry, like water or alcohol, because those are a bit too easy. And don’t include “Goldilocks conditions” as one of the four defining features.)
Be creative but hold to the ground rules of the assignment defined above. Try not to be too brief – this exercise can be huge if you think deeply about it.
