What Is A Leader?
Although there is a wealth of leadership material available both inside and outside the healthcare profession, much of it focuses on the role of the CEO or another management or administrator who interacts with staff. This implies that the term “leader” exclusively refers to those in top-level administrative roles, that only a small number of people are regarded leaders, and that those who are led have a limited effect on the organization’s performance or future orientation. Nothing could be further from the truth in actuality. Leaders are found in all walks of life, in all positions and roles, and in all fields. For success, those expected to follow leaders must understand how, when, and whom to follow. Changing leadership theories have brought fresh insights on leadership over time, but they have failed to recognize the complexity of leadership and the significance of followers. More recent views recognize that effective leadership is dependent on the person, the environment, and the followers’ traits and maturity. According to these beliefs, leadership is intentional and entails communication, vision, involvement, and inspiration in order to motivate a group.
Leaders Versus Managers
Managers often work with others to achieve an organization’s goals—often with great expertise, but not necessarily with passion—where leaders have a vision and rely on passion to engage others. To elaborate on those two points, leaders share their vision in order to motivate people to make a positive difference in the lives of those around them. Patients may be admitted to the unit in a more effective and compassionate manner as a consequence of the vision of a nursing leader. Families may be incorporated into the patient-care process for a more pleasant experience, and employees may have more influence on policies and procedures that affect them. Managers, on the other hand, frequently convey the organization’s policies and expectations for compliance. The work is usually completed, however fear is occasionally used as a motivator rather than a better one. It’s also possible that the employees believe they have no option in the issue. Effective followers choose to follow because they respect the vision and are motivated by the enthusiasm with which an idea is expressed.
One path to become a leader is to be an excellent follower. Followers are frequently portrayed as sheep, yes-men, or cheerleaders, and some do act in these roles. However, a vision cannot be realized and compelling issues cannot be addressed just by the leader. In reality, without followers, there would be no leaders. Followers that are effective think critically about ideas, initiatives, and challenges, give multiple points of view, invest in the group and its goals, and know who to follow and when to follow. They both provide and accept advice and support, share collective responsibility, defend high ideals and standards, recognize their own talents and shortcomings, and stay loyal to their own principles; they will not tolerate persons who misuse their position as a leader. These people are powerful, engaged, and ready to take on leadership responsibilities. They are willing to take chances, communicate well, take initiative, and think for themselves, just like leaders are.
A staff nurse can certainly serve in all three roles at the same time. A staff nurse may manage and lead her coworkers while simultaneously being a follower. Some of these talents overlap through engaging in honest self-reflection on individual strengths and deficiencies, such as clinical competence and proficiency, communication skills, or mentoring activities. When you see unfairness, disrespectful conduct, clinical blunders, or inefficient methods, speak out. Another way of being a successful leader is to clearly identify an issue, propose a solution, and recommend ways to improve the situation. There are approximately three million nurses in the US. They are trusted and valued by the public and guided by their commitment to others. Imagine the impact nurses could have if even half of them truly functioned as leaders. Who would be in a better position to make significant changes in healthcare? (Valiga, 2019)
The leader I would like to use as an example for this discussion post is Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Governor Ron DeSantis stated in 2020, “As we look toward 2021, I believe Floridians have reason to be optimistic. The vaccine has arrived in Florida and we have started vaccinating frontline health care workers, and we were the first state in the nation to begin vaccinating residents of long-term care facilities. As more vaccine supply becomes available, we will continue to prioritize Floridians most vulnerable to the virus to reduce the impacts of social isolation and support our state’s ongoing economic recovery.” He notably mentions the impact of the Corona Virus on healthcare personnel and their attempts to help during the epidemic in this remark. Gov. Ron DeSantis, in my opinion, has the qualities of a participatory leader. Democratic ideology underpins participatory leadership approaches. The goal is to have team members participate in decision-making. As a result, team members feel included, engaged, and inspired to participate. In most decision-making procedures, the leader will have the last say. The development of a strong team is aided by participatory leadership. When he speaks, he stimulates the target audience and makes individuals feel heard.

You have read about Primate Ecology and know about our current pandemic. Now let’s look at a scholarly article about zoonotic diseases or zoonosis, the study of disease transmissions across species, and the impact of Covid 19 on our interspecies relationships with other primate species.

Of the nearly 600 species and subspecies of primates living today approximately half are in danger of extinction.
The number of recognized serious threats to primate survival has increased over the last decade.
These threats include climate change, habitat loss ( encroaching farmland, deforestation, logging industries). and bushmeat hunting. Also, primate diseases, particularly for those populations that are in danger of contracting diseases from exposure to humans through ecotourism, are on the rise.

Essay needs to be in a newspaper or brochure format. Personal narrative topic will be how I loved helping people when they’re in need as a child. As I got older into my teenage years I did volunteer work for the community and at the community health center around the metroplex. Now, in my 20s I am dedicated to opening a community health center. I just made something up so I am open to any topic LOL! Thank you. I also attached the rubric, instructions, and an example brochure.
