Expatriate Hiring: International HRM Scenario
This discussion is based on the following scenario:
Dilworth Inc., a U.S. electronics manufacturer, has decided to take advantage of the very low salaries in the developing nation of Chad in Central Africa. Other global organizations have had a very difficult time maintaining employees in this county. The number of western-style amenities are low; there is a limited variety of food and no fast food. There is a French country club with some amenities. Cell phone coverage is limited and in general, living in the capitol city of Anjemina is a challenge for most Americans. There is very little to do in the country except work, so psychological difficulties arise from living in an impoverished nation. There are three schools but the educational quality is limited by the challenges of attracting and retaining faculty and staff. Spouses and children who accompany the employee often leave after a year. For those who choose to stay, leave is generous. Because of the conditions in the country, employees and their families can join the frequent trips the embassy’s Community Liaison Officer arranges to Europe and to other countries in Africa.
As the HR professional at Dilworth, you need to hire a middle management staff member in operations, finance, marketing, and human resources. For this discussion, respond to the following:
How would you go about selecting an employee candidate for this assignment in Chad?
What cautions would you offer to potential candidates?
Would you offer any special compensation to attract and retain the employee? Why or why not? If so, what type of special compensation?
Note: You may find the Allowances site linked in Resources helpful when thinking about special compensation.

Research “Servant and Holistic Leadership,” and write a paper on the topic.
Serv essay help onlineResearch “Servant and Holistic Leadership,” and write a paper on the topic.
Servant leadership is a timeless concept. According to Robert K. Greenleaf, (1970) “The servant leader is servant first…it begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first.” The servant-leader shares power, puts the needs of others first and helps people develop and perform as highly as possible. Holistic leadership considers the whole person – body, mind, heart, and spirit. We all have an innate desire to develop our human potential. Holistic leaders recognize their talents and gifts and encourage others to find their talents and gifts and to unleash these gifts. Holistic leadership recognizes the understanding of our own true purpose; the dignity of work; an understanding of the community of work; and the intention to serve the common good. In this paper, discuss the traits and characteristics of servant leadership and holistic leadership. Select one or two leaders that exemplify both of these leadership dimensions and illustrate these examples. Conclude with a summary of how these leadership dimensions are important to your career and your own leadership development.
Your paper should begin with a discussion of Servant leadership traits / characteristics as well as a discussion of Holistic leadership traits / characteristics. Include at least three references in this first section. Next you should select a leader(s) that meets the assigned trait(s), give a brief, historical overview of the leader(s). Now, go into detail Illustrating both Servant and Holistic traits / characteristics of this leader. Please note, this should be more of an illustration of the leadership traits, and not a biography of your leader. You will need an additional three (3) references for this section. In your conclusion, please include a summary of how you could use these ideas in your career and your leadership development.
This paper is to be a minimum of 3-4 full pages, no pictures, Times New Roman (12), 1.5 spacing, MLA citations for a minimum of six (6) different references, with a cover page and Works Cited section listing your sources, which is in addition to the 5 pages of text.

Riot Games Talent Management Strategy Case Study
The global organizatio best essay helpRiot Games Talent Management Strategy Case Study
The global organization is a complicated and powerful platform of productive capability, built on the power of differences. Cultural diversity offers a broad perspective of competitive settings and responds to and from many views while leveraging the strengths that come from different nations and regions of the world. A strong global human resources strategy can support the organization’s goals to attract and retain the most talented professionals in fields aligned with the organization’s competitive posture and marketing space.
This assignment is based on the following case study:
Riot Games, Inc., is a global gaming company based in West Los Angeles, California. The company was started in 2006 by Brandon Beck and Marc Merrill, as they worked to build a gaming company that would be quality focused and continuously improved. As of May 2018, Riot Games employs 2,500 staff members and operates 24 offices around the world, including locations in Barcelona, Spain; Berlin, Germany; Dubai, UAE; Dublin, Ireland; Hong Kong, China; Istanbul, Turkey; London, England; Los Angeles, CA; New Delhi, India; Paris, France; San Francisco, CA, US; St. Louis, MO, US; Santiago, Chile; São Paulo, Brazil; Seoul, Korea; Shanghai, China; Singapore; Sydney, Australia; and Tokyo, Japan. Talent is not a function of place but of people, and the hundreds of skills and dozens of occupations that are required to create a highly exciting and engaging family of computer games enjoyed in virtually every nation in the world requires a broadly diverse staff.
Riot Games is working very hard on diversity and inclusion with respect to both national culture and diversity, as we recognize it in the United States. The company has hired experts engaged in programs and is honestly working to address a culture that could be much improved with respect to inclusion. However, there is a key point that needs to be considered as you review and respond to this assessment. The number of women working for the organization in the creative area is currently less than 10 percent. Riot Games is a highly successful organization full of very capable and creative people. Most people work in the areas of art and technology. Another portion of its employees work in supporting roles that are common to companies. A challenge for this great company is how to attract women to its technology roles and other supporting functions of the organization. With so few women employees, the company will be challenged to attract others, often out of concern for the presence of peers. The high male population is the same across all offices listed above. While there is diversity of culture and ethnicity, and the LGBT community is being welcomed, the absence of women is an issue the organization’s leadership has made a major goal to resolve.
Riot Games is ultimately a talent-driven organization that is successful due to its uniquely qualified employees. These are not always the kinds of employees who can be sourced in traditional ways. They are talented and driven, work all hours, dream in code, and are intolerant of traditional bureaucratic settings. Interestingly, Riot Games is anything but bureaucratic. However, no matter the organizational structure and behavior of an organization, all will have human resources challenges that cannot be easily resolved. In fact this will be an issue that will require both resources and creativity to fix, which is exactly what you are challenged to do in this assignment.
By successfully completing this assignment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:
Competency 1: Explain how culture influences human resource practices and employee management.
Explain how culture influences HR practices and employee management in this case study.
Competency 2: Analyze global issues that influence human resource practices for multinational corporations (MNCs).
Analyze the evidence supporting the improvement of the organization’s talent management.
Competency 3: Analyze the impact of cross-cultural communications on employee management in multinational corporations (MNCs).
Articulate personal views for or against improving the organization’s talent management.
Assess whether a non-HR leader and an HR leader would support the same talent management decisions.
Communicate in a manner that is scholarly, professional, and consistent with expectations for members of the human resource profession.
Write in a professional style using APA citations and format with correct grammar, usage, and mechanics.
Today, talent management is a principal area of attention for HR departments and organizational leaders and this assessment provides a strategic case study based on Riot Games. The company’s website is linked in Resources. If you haven’t already done so, review the company’s products, functions, and locations to support your assessment work. Note: Since websites are dynamic domains, it is understood that content will change over time.

Assess whether a non-HR leader and an HR leader would support the same talent management decisions.

Concise and logically organized.
Free of errors in grammar and mechanics.

choose your own commercial. In choosing your commercial, make sure you can addre best essay helpchoose your own commercial. In choosing your commercial, make sure you can address the following:
What is the company’s marketing strategy? In answering, consider the concepts discussed in the lectures and textbook, such as what you think the target market is, where you believe they are trying to position themselves in the market, what is their value proposition, is the marketing message in the commercial consistent with the message they are trying to convey through other forms of marketing (i.e. promotions, in store displays, etc.) and/or across their commercials (the latter applying only if you choose to analyze a series of commercials) , etc.
Do they focus on tangible features or intangibles (such as emotions, status, etc.) or some combination thereof? Do you believe this is the right focus? Why or why not? If the focus is on tangible features do you think they should change to intangibles, and vice versa? And if they have a more hybrid approach, would you change it, and if so how?
Based upon your preceding analysis, develop what do you believe is the strategy of the brand/company and its Mission Statement. Be sure to explain your strategy by referencing back to your analysis. Remember that a brand’s/company’s mission, overall strategy, and marketing strategy and execution MUST be in alignment if the brand/company is to be successful.
Please note that one would have no idea what any particular company’s or brand’s strategy is as they don’t share it with the public (for obvious reasons) so this assignment is not about a “right” or “wrong” answer. It is about working backwards from a commercial to develop a mission statement and strategy that you believe, and more importantly can justify, is in alignment with their commercial(s). As such, a well thought out cohesive analysis that makes sense is expected.

Scenario A – Fitness rooms in a gym
a) Create an ER diagram using standard Chen notation for the following scenario:
A friend who works for Penn State Campus Recreation told you they would like to set up a database to keep track of the group fitness rooms and the classes in the IM Building. This database will only serve the IM building. Each ROOM has a unique number (e.g., 001, 002, 003, 116, etc.). They also want to keep track of the maximum capacity of each room.
MEMBERS can sign up for group fitness sessions (but it is possible they won’t sign up for any sessions). Sessions are held in rooms. For each group SESSION, the date and start time, and room number, and minimum capacity (below which the class will not run) will be recorded.
Each group session is officially led by one TRAINER. A trainer is identified by his/her certification number. When a trainer is employed, they must be assigned to a minimum of one class.
b) An ER diagram cannot easily support description/enforcement of temporal constraints (these are things having to do with time). Can you think of an example of a temporal constraint that could arise in this scenario that cannot be captured with this diagramming method?
Scenario B – Medical Solutions Hospital
A hospital has a large number of registered physicians. Attributes of PHYSICIAN include Physician ID (the identifier) and specialty. Patients are admitted to the hospital by physicians. Attributes of PATIENT include patient ID(identifier) and patient name. Any patient who is admitted must have exactly one admitting physician. A physician may optionally admit any number of patients. Once admitted, a given patient must be treated by at least one physician. A particular physician may treat any number of patients, or none at all. Whenever a patient is treated by a physician, the hospital wishes to record the details of the treatment (TREATMENT DETAIL). Attributes of Treatment Detail include date, time, and results.

Weber and Robbins each urge us to consider the relationship between science and the scientist. We confront the problem of separating the knowledge within a scientific discipline and the work done by the scientist himself. In practicing economics, the economist concerns himself first and foremost with content of economic science, however these readings suggest that the activity of the economist himself is potentially a worthy object of study. I am struck by the implications of incorporating a theory of how economic science is pursued into an evaluation of the validity of economic insight. The subjective nature of scientific activity adds an additional layer of uncertainty to scientific claims.
On one hand, mathematics or physics appears to be the epitome of objective knowledge, and provide a benchmark to which other sciences should aspire. In those fields, there should be little or no disagreement based on the perspective of the scientist. Cultural sciences, however, cannot conform to this ideal, and yet contain many of the most interesting and fundamental objects of human inquiry. These papers highlight the importance of the perspective of the scientist in ways I hadn’t previously considered. Weber asserts that, “All knowledge of cultural reality… is always knowledge from a particular point of view” (Weber, 64). His point is both epistemological and methodological, in that he makes both a simple claim about the nature of observation and a subtler argument that the scientist is the source of meaning. He later asserts: “without the investigator’s evaluative ideas, there would be no principle of selection of subject matter and no meaningful knowledge of concrete reality” (Weber, 64). Our minds give meaning to our surroundings, and we should – or even necessarily must – pursue questions that strike us as meaningful.
Among other things, acknowledging the scientist’s role in what constitutes science means that we must recognize our limits. Omniscience is beyond our reach. That reality must inform the way we view the knowledge we do possess, as well as how we view the scientific progress. Each scientist inevitably brings a set of presuppositions to any problem he studies. We cannot, strictly speaking, simply allow the data to ‘speak for itself.’ Instead, we should recognize that context determines how we pursue, interpret, and organize the data of the world around us. The question remains: do we dispose of the notion of objectivity in economics altogether, or is there a way to salvage some propositions from the grasp of relativism?
Acknowledging our partiality, we confront problems of how we reach objective knowledge at all. Each of our authors recognize, and warn against, radical relativism and nihilism. Robbins notes that generalizations about ideal types do not correspond to specific realities, but cautions us against assuming the validity of our insight, “is limited to certain historical conditions, and that outside these they have no relevance to the analysis of social phenomena” (Robbins, 80). Even though the scientist works within a contextual framework, he does not abandon hope that we can claim to know certain truths that have an almost mathematical legitimacy. I am not sure I completely understand why this should be so, but it does seem worth exploring further – and it would be a comforting conclusion.
Assuming, that Robbins and Weber are correct, it seems that we are capable of building toward a ‘body of scientific truths’ which is in principle separable from the methods used to build it. Weber offers some optimism when he claims that, “scientific truth is precisely what is valid for all who seek truth” (Weber, 66). The authors both argue that we should aspire to arrive at validly objective facts about the world. The readings make me less hopeful that objectivity is possible, but if it is, I realize more now than ever that it is worth pursuing.
Overall thoughts: (Positives) Transitions are good; each paragraph contains a main point and advances the discussion; judicious use of quotes; grammatically and stylistically fine; clear communication of a main idea or set of ideas; shows engagement with the readings (Negatives) Occasionally too wordy; repetitive; conclusion could be stronger
Overall grade: 22/25 – This is an A paper, and a bit of copy-editing could have made it better.
A good paper may take a number of forms, but it will certainly follow some general guidelines:
Whatever you write, please ensure that you are not merely summarizing or reacting to what you have read. Fundamentally, I don’t care to hear “your opinion,” except as a necessary byproduct of your analyzing the text. If you’re going to agree with something you’ve read, you’ll need to lay out why you find it compelling. The easier task will be to criticize something. But in order to do this properly, you need to lay out an argument. A real argument.
To write an argument, you need to be absolutely clear what sort of conclusion you are proposing and what premises lead to that conclusion. You might also want to show that you are aware of the weaknesses of your argument and make some effort to address them.
1) You might start by very briefly summarizing the point you wish to comment upon. Something like: “Deneen argues that our society is bound to fail because it uses up material and moral resources more quickly than it can replenish them.” At this point, you’ve laid out all the context you need. Now, move quickly to explain your intent in your essay: “While I agree with his claim that capitalism uses environmental resources irresponsibly, I find his arguments about moral resources unconvincing.” Fine.
2) Before you go too much further, you need to show that you accurately understand the argument you are discussing. A quote might be useful, but again, you should keep this as brief as possible. This will be difficult! You are going to have to make a call: How much do I need to explain to show I accurately understand his essential arguments? In some cases, this explanation will be your second paragraph. In other cases, you might weave your commentary in and describe his argument over the course of your whole paper. For instance: “Deneen claims that certain habits of behavior are essential to the maintenance of a functioning society. He claims that we have lost these habits and concludes therefore that our society is bound to fail.” You could unpack this quite a bit, and probably need to, depending on what you plan to argue. For instance – what habits? What is a well-functioning society? What does failure look like? The more detail you give, the more attention you will have to pay to the specifics of Deneen’s argument. You will have to make a trade-off between brevity and detail.
3) Now it is your turn to comment: “While Deneen’s argument is valid, he fails to appreciate the diversity of habits that can serve as the foundation for a well-functioning society. This over-narrow prescription leads Deneen to a position of unwarranted pessimism.” Now you are off to the races. You should be as clear and concise as possible. What are the habits that characterize our modern society, and why should we think they would serve at least as well as the habits Deneen suggests we have lost? In order to answer this, you will likely want to borrow from Deneen’s own formula. He has thought a lot about this, and anyway, it is good rhetorical technique. “Deneen decries the destabilizing effects of loosening social bonds, but he says comparatively little about the stabilizing effects of habits that arise out of modern liberalism. The cosmopolitan tendencies of modernity surely contribute greater peace and stability between nations. Inasmuch as conflict between peoples, ethnic groups, and nations is a source of failure for nations, a liberal order is more robust than its pre-modern counterparts.” And so on. The meat of your paper will take some thought. You are building an argument. You will have to think DEEPLY about why you agree or disagree with the author. In doing so, you may change your mind. Good – back to the drawing board. Somewhere in the second half of your essay, you should probably acknowledge the points of weakness in your own argument and attempt to address them.
4) By the end, you will want to have some small room for a conclusion. In a two-page paper, this will be short. Probably not more than two or three lines.
