Reason for encounter: Abdominal pain
My stomach has ready been hurting over the past 2 days now and I have not been able to go to work. I have vomited over the past three days now and I have not felt like eating. The pain makes me scare.
No changes in bowel movement. I have bowel move once a day. I vomit whenever I have eating. No funny color or anything like that. Nothing makes it better. The vomiting is always there. I have had nausea vomiting before but not like this or abdominal pain. I have taking antacids but that did not help. The nausea is pretty much there all the time and vomiting are associated with eating or drinking anything. It does not keep me from sleeping. The abdominal pain started about 2 weeks ago. It started less much intense and got much progressively mor frequent and more painful, but I could stay go about my business, these last 2 days has been more dreadful. Eating makes the pain in my abdomen worse, I don’t know how to any better, I tried antacid but that did not do any different at all. Hurt sometimes if I take a deep breath. The pain is on the right side under my ribs. Is deeper inside. I look like it makes my right shoulder ache. Pain started at 2 and went up to 7. It goes always after a day all 2. Denies chest pain.
Assignment: i-Human Case Study: Evaluating and Managing Genitourinary or Gastrointestinal ConditionsUrinary frequency is an example of a genitourinary condition that presents problems for adults across the lifespan. It can be the result of various systemic conditions such as diabetes, urinary tract infections, enlarged prostates, kidney infections, or prostate cancer. Many of these conditions have very serious implications requiring thorough patient evaluations. When evaluating patients, it is essential to carefully assess the patient’s personal, medical, and family history prior to recommending certain physical exams and diagnostic testing, as sometimes the benefits of these exams do not outweigh the risks.

Photo Credit: Crystal light / Adobe StockFor this Case Study Assignment, you will analyze an i-Human simulation case study about an adult patient with a gastrointestinal condition. Based on the patient’s information, you will formulate a differential diagnosis, evaluate treatment options, and then create an appropriate treatment plan for the patient.
To prepare:
Review this week’s Learning Resources. Consider how to assess, diagnose, and treat patients with GI or GU conditions.
Access i-Human from this week’s Learning Resources and review this week’s i-Human case study. Based on the provided patient information, think about the health history you would need to collect from the patient.
Consider what physical exams and diagnostic tests would be appropriate to gather more information about the patient’s condition. Reflect on how the results would be used to make a diagnosis.
Identify three to five possible conditions that may be considered in a differential diagnosis for the patient.
Consider the patient’s diagnosis. Think about clinical guidelines that might support this diagnosis.
Develop a treatment plan for the patient that includes health promotion and patient education strategies for patients with GI or GU conditions.
Assignment
As you interact with this week’s i-Human patient, complete the assigned case study. For guidance on using i-Human, refer to the i-Human Graduate Programs Help link within the i-Human platform.

Exam Content

Imagine you have been selected to participate in a prestigious internship in a health care organization working for the chief information officer (CIO). Your internship consists of a series of projects you will complete throughout this course. The process of creating this presentation will provide you the opportunity to analyze security risks and privacy safeguards related to health care technology and consider the integration of a new software tool.

Preparing for the Assignment:
You will be asked to create a Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation for the CIO. If you need any assistance using Microsoft PowerPoint, please reference the Create a Presentation in PowerPoint page on the Microsoft website.

Consider the following scenario:

In the first week of your internship, the CIO asks you to research electronic health records (EHRs). She says, “I must give a presentation at a staff meeting next week, and I’d like you to complete the research and create the slides and notes for me. The presentation must focus on EHRs, which our organization is considering implementing. Please be thorough with the speaker notes. Also, consider and/or research the constraints that are a major consideration for the staff when selecting new technology.”

Narrow down your research to 2 or 3 specific EHRs to research and present to the CIO for the staff meeting.

Assignment Directions:
Develop a 10- to 15-slide Microsoft PowerPoint presentation that includes the information the CIO requested in the scenario.

List major points in the slides. Include detailed explanations in the speaker notes that correlate to each of the following points:

The specific EHRs you’ve chosen to present
The effects of this technology on health care
The privacy risks, security safeguards, and strategies for evaluating the effectiveness of the EHRs
The HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules and the reasons those rules do or do not apply to this type of technology

Include videos, audio, photos, diagrams, or graphs as appropriate.

Please note that each and every assignment has its own word limit.

I think social media can help give people information but also give them false information. A very good example of this is COVID-19 information. I had seen it with people in my family looking at social media or even the news media giving them false information when the pandemic had first started. When COVID-19 first started, it led to a diffusion of misinformation about not only the virus but the origin and the effective prevention/treatment strategies as well (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, n.d.). An example of this is my father read something on Facebook that was not true about the virus and swore it was factual information when it was not. On the plus side, social media does help with trying to figure out or identify what could be wrong with a person more quickly before taking them to a hospital. Manny could save an office visit with the help of social media as well. Public health outlets use social platforms to disseminate knowledge in many different ways. Organizations like the world health organization, centers for disease control and prevention, even local health organizations have different social media platforms. On these platforms, they can post things like factual information about COVID-19 stats for the day, for example. They can also remind people to get their flu shots and give the other information on these different platforms. For example, a news broadcaster on social media posted about different places around the valley people could get tested for COVID-19 as well as different vaccinations cite, and they are available to everyone. This is actually how I found a place for family members and friends to get vaccinated in the valley. Many public health organizations can also post about different public health outlets or even a link in their social media post to take viewers directly to what they are looking for. Other ways I have seen public health professionals use disseminated knowledge is by talking to viewers through zoom and doing interviews through zoom that are broadcasted on television, for example. I watched the Dr. Fauci documentary on Disney a few weeks ago, and it shows how many of his meetings as well as interviews for everyone to see were through zoom with broadcasters, staff, and more. In the documentary, he also talks about his Twitter page, which is another example of a public health professional using social media outlets to give information. I think all of these methods are effective. I personally would use all of them. I say this because if you use social media outlets to give out public health information that’s factual, you can get all of the younger generations to pay attention. If you use interviews on news broadcastings, for example, to give our public health information, then you were getting the older population as well. This way, if you’re using all types of methods to get information out there, you are hitting every generation of the United States population. I think you have to do things this way because, for example, there are older adults who don’t like social media and don’t like to use social media; therefore, they don’t have social media. You need to think about how to reach that audience since they don’t have social media. This is where news broadcasting, zoom calls, and lectures come into play.
