Mathematics 3 semester 2 5.4.3 Practice: Modeling: Solids

YOUR ASSIGNMENT: Solid Art
Your selections
You meet an artist who makes sculptures out of Platonic solids. Being an excellent geometer who knows how to use nets to create solid figures, you are intrigued and want to make your own models.
1. Which combined solid did you select? (Circle one.) (1 point)
Left: Icosahedron with tetrahedronsRight: Octahedron with tetrahedrons
Construct the models
Nets are two-dimensional patterns that fold into 3-dimensional shapes, so they are a great tool for analyzing and constructing solids. Use the tetrahedron, octahedron and the icosahedron tools to help you examine each shape more closely, and to practice folding each net into a solid.
2. Using the link on the activity page, cut out each net. Fold and tape each net into a three-dimensional solid. Your solids do not need to be perfect. (9 points: 3 points for each solid)

3. Identify each solid. Hint: count the number of faces you can see. (6 points: 1 point for each blank)
Solid 1: number of faces:_____ name of solid: _____ Solid 2: number of faces:_____name of solid: _____ Solid 3: number of faces:_____name of solid: _____
Your solid
4. Look at the polyhedron that you chose at the beginning. Which two solids do you need to create your polyhedron? How many of each solid do you need?Answer for your polyhedron. Hint: Each tetrahedron will cover one face of the other solid. (4 points: 1 point for each blank)
Polyhedron 1: Solid:_____ Number: _____ Solid:_____ Number: _____ Polyhedron 2: Solid:_____ Number: _____ Solid:_____ Number: _____

REQUIRED: Read: both articles by Dr. Shaffer about casino employees, watch Film, “Croupier” and watch Sycuan Employee Film
Submit a short (400-600 word) response to the course reading and film by answering the following questions:

2) What are some behaviors in the film, Croupier, that suggest that the main character is vulnerable to developing disordered gambling and/or other addictive behaviors?
3) What evidence does Dr. Shaffer offer from his research with casino employees to support his claim that gambling disorder is not necessarily chronic and progressive in the same that way that substance abuse disorder is chronic and progressive.

Revise Writing Question

The assignment has already been completed by another tutor which has been attached in the document titled revise_drug_and_alcohol_dependence_critique, however, there are some things that need to be revised. The big issue is that it is not following the format of the article_critique_example document. For example, the introduction and thesis in paragraph 1 are not structured like article_critique_example and the thesis especially does not follow the same format as the example and should mention three critiques which have to be in epidemiology terms. There should only be one summary paragraph, which should be paragraph 2, yet there are two paragraphs for the summary. Paragraphs 3-5 which are the critique paragraphs and are too short.

fire protection structure bracing

see attached file
A 1-1/4 inch schedule 40 steel pipe is to be used as a longitudinal brace connecting an 8- inch main to a nominal 6 x 12 wood beam with a single 5/8-inch through bolt as shown below. Assuming that the sway brace assembly fittings are listed for a load of 800 lbs determine the following. What is the maximum allowable load capacity of the following:Maximum allowable load capacity of the brace?
Maximum allowable load capacity of the brace fittings?
Maximum allowable load capacity of the through bolt fastener?
What is the maximum required distance of the bolt from the bottom of the beam? *

Given the layout of the building and sprinkler system in Figure 2.8, indicate which seismic protection features are required and where they should be located. Specifically address longitudinal braces, lateral braces, restraining means, flexible couplings, clearance and seismic separation assemblies. The building, which is located in Boston, MA has a single story and was constructed in two phases. The main building, which measures 120 ft by 90 ft was constructed during phase one. An office addition was added to the complex as a freestanding structure as part of phase two and measures 60 ft by 60 ft.
Assume the Ss for the California area is 28 (0.28 g). Earthquake protection is required for a new terminal at the International Airport, and the foundations are designed to rest on hard rock. Determine Fp values using both the NFPA 13 simplified method and the 2005 ASCE 7 method. Values of ap and Rp are as given in NFPA 13 and in the slides.
Is seismic protection needed for a water-based fire protection system for the high-rise office building located at 175 W Jackson Blvd, Chicago, IL based upon the IBC? Provide all references for your response.

Decision Trees, Scenario Analysis

Decision Trees
You have an option to develop an oil field, which has known reserves of 50,000 barrels. Production costs are $30 per barrel. You may drill the oil in the first year or in the second year, but you must recover all 50,000 barrels at the same time. If you drill in the first period, you may sell the oil at the period one price or store it at a cost of $2 per barrel. You pay storage costs at the time you decide to store the oil.
The current price of oil is $40 per barrel, but the price will increase by 20 percent or decrease by 10 percent each year with equal probability. (So, for example, the price per barrel the first year will be either $48 per barrel or $36 per barrel.)
Construct a decision tree to show all the possible outcomes over the two years and the net income for each outcome. Assume that you must make the decision to drill or not to drill in period one before observing the period one price. If you drill in period one, you must decide to sell or store before observing period two price. If you do not drill in period one, you make the decision whether or not to drill in period two after observing the period one price, but before observing the period two price.
If the discount rate is 10 percent per year, what is the best action to take in each period? What is the expected NPV of the oil concession at time zero (i.e. before the price change in the first period)?
There is a spreadsheet attached that you may use as a guide in solving this problem.
Scenario Analysis
Suppose in the above problem that each year there is a 50 percent probability that the price will increase by 30 percent and a 50 percent probability that the price will not change. How do the above answers change?
Now suppose in the above problem that each year there is a 50 percent probability that the price will increase by 10 percent and a 50 percent probability that the price will decrease by 30 percent. How do the above answers change?
Just need some help setting up and answering this question please. I have an attached file as well to help you out if need be. Thank you.
