Management Question

Getting StartedManagers need to be prepared for changes in both reimbursement policy and overall changes to the healthcare system. Since Medicare and Medicaid make up a growing portion of all healthcare reimbursement in the United States, it is important that healthcare managers monitor changes to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) reimbursement guidelines.
Reimbursement policy has long been an issue for healthcare managers and organizations. Healthcare reimbursement often requires a lot of supporting documentation, specialized coding and billing processes, and other administrative aspects that can become time-consuming and costly for any organization. This is why ensuring a solid understanding of reimbursement policies by the major third-party payers in the healthcare field is important. Recently, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and other CMS changes to reimbursement required healthcare organizations to analyze and review their policies related to billing, coding, and collecting revenues from government payers such as Medicaid and Medicare.
In this assignment you will assume the role of a mid-level manager at a community-based hospital and have the opportunity to analyze the PPACA and CMS changes and their impact on the organization. You will also prepare an executive summary detailing the recent changes in tax reimbursement at the organization.
Upon successful completion of this assignment, you will be able to:
Evaluate strategic planning and organizational management of healthcare delivery systems.

Management Question

A typical healthcare organization relies on patient information to be successful in its day-to-day operations. Many clinical decisions are based on information provided by the patient at the point of service.
Imagine for a minute a busy emergency department at a community-based hospital. This department would surely be using as much information as possible to ensure that patients are receiving appropriate care. In many cases, identifying information about patients is needed for the healthcare staff to communicate with family members, guardians, or loved ones. This is true for not only emergency departments but for many healthcare settings. Healthcare clinicians need to gather important patient information such as medical history, complications, symptoms, family history, and demographics on almost every patient in most healthcare settings.
This means that today’s healthcare managers must have a good understanding of the privacy laws and policies related to patient information. Protecting patient information is a very important issue that managers face in today’s healthcare settings. A multitude of laws, policies, and external regulations impact patient information and enforce privacy standards.
In this assignment you will do research and then create a list as well as a rationale of the barriers that healthcare organizations face related to protecting patient information.
Upon successful completion of this assignment, you will be able to:
Identify issues involved with protecting patient information.
