The resistance of a conductor is well known to be dependent upon the Material it is made from, its length, diameter, and temperature. I am going to be studying the resistance of wire to see how a length of Nichrome wire affects the dependent variable, resistance.


Prediction

I predict that, as the length of the wire doubles, the resistance will also double. This means that the length will affect the resistance.

Hypothesis

I predict that as the length of wire is increased a greater amount of resistance will be created. This is because electrons colliding into ions cause resistance, so if the length of the wire is doubled, the electrons bump into twice as many ions so there will be twice as much resistance.


A current is formed by moving charges. These charges loose energy as they move through the materials forming the circuit. Some materials, like metals, make it very easy for the charges to move, providing millions of mobile electrons that flow easily. Others like polythene provide no mobile electrons and current cannot flow through them.


In between these two extremes are many materials, which do allow charges to move but not as easily as metals do. As charges flow through these materials they transform lots of their energy into heat as they bump their way through the microscopic structure. These materials are known as poor conductors or resistors (they resist the flow of charges). A resistor transforms the electrical energy of the charges into heat.


The unit used to measure resistance is called the Ohm ( ) it is a measure of how many volts are needed to push 1 amp through the component.

A zygote divides into two, and each newly formed cell subdivides. Further divisions of cells occur continuously until a multitude of cells organize into tissues, tissues into organs, and organs into organ systems of a multicellular organism. The complex life processes which sustaining reactions which the single cell of unicellular organism performs. These are the biological concepts that comprise the so-called cell theory. Basically, the concepts may be summarized into three statements as follows:

Unlike traditional X-ray machines that only underlines bone, the CT scanner gives you much more detail. For example: the CT scanner will show a 3D demonstration of the skull or cranial blood vessels in the computers. Thats far better that a dark picture of bones. When a patient comes into the CAT scan room all that he sees is a table and something that resembles a huge donut. The patient is asked to lie down on the table. The way that he lies down on the table, will depend on what the doctors are looking for. If the doctor needs to see the thoracic cavity then the patient is asked to raise his hands. A CAT scan isnt as simple as you computer scanner, its much more complex. The CAT scan has two sensors an X-ray source, which releases the X-rays and an X-ray detector, which examines the number of X-rays that strike various parts of the patients body. X-ray machines have that same concept but what separates and X-ray machine form a CT scanner is the CT scanners ability to rotate and receive multiple images of the patients cavities. These images from various angles are then received by the computer. The computer then uses all that data and forms a three dimensional model of that organ. By moving the patient through the scanner the computer receives several parallel images called, slices. The doctors examine these slices to better understand the three dimensional model. Sometimes, the X-ray images wont be clear enough and they will require an aid. When that is the case doctor may inject the patient with an agent that will help see the contrast of different tissues in the body. Other times, the patient might be asked to drink a substance that will make the internal organs easier to examine. When they are asked to drink, its often something to do in the abdominopelic cavity.


Nevertheless, the CAT scan wasnt just created one day by one person. It has taken several generations to develope the CAT scan that we see today. On November 1898 an inventor called Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen accidently found X-ray images from his wooden cathode ray generator. He was surprised by his discovery and decided to experiment. A week later, Wilhelm took a picture of his wifes hand and was astonished to see all of her finger bones and her ring. This picture was a scandal in the scientific community and made head lines all over the word. Just the thought that you could take a picture of someones insides was intriguing to most folks at the time. Wilhelm called these ray X-rays (X meaning unknown) but, in Germany they are called Rontgen rays. Scientists later found


Rontgen rays in the DNA of the dead, as the bones of the dead were buried. Although Rontgen rays were not available in Europe, that’s because they were more expensive and not available in India.>Since the rays were not available in India, they were not used against rats and animals as this was done with a certain method. The X-ray tests took an average of 30 minutes each, taking a total of 36 hours, and the test was successful.

However, my work as a 3GPP standards delegate made me increasingly aware that Huawei’s standards activities often focused solely on patent generation and rarely conformed to the requirements from the telecom operators. For example, our standards team pushed our “multi-cast” solution in the universal mobile telecommunications system, but our product management team did not implement it in our own products due to low interest from carriers, neither did other competitors. As a result, although we could declare to own many IPRs on this “multi-cast” feature, we were unable to cross license these IPRs with other companies since no one needs it. Furthermore, such kind of standard activities would also damage our image in the operators’ eyes since they may consider that Huawei did not understand their problems and needs. However, even if the research teams were aware of such situations, they sometimes overlooked the problem. There was an obvious advantage to push such solution into standard since no other companies would block it due to lack of interests. I discussed these findings with the director of my department and proposed incorporating marketing and product strategy into our standard activities. The director of standard shared the same feeling with me, and he agreed to let me have a trial in the department to define standards strategies to guide the activities in the global standard organizations.


The main idea of my proposal was to define the position of each research topic according to the customers’ needs and our marketing strategy. With the director’s consent, I quickly found another two colleagues and built up a small team called “wireless standard strategy team” to carry on this proposal. We first went through the research areas of the ongoing projects to identify the topics that did not align with our customers’ requirement or our marketing strategies. The struggle for women’s rights did not begin in the 1960s. What has come to be called “Women’s Lib” was, in fact, the second wave of a civil rights movement that began in the early 19th century. This first wave revolved around gaining suffrage (the right to vote). Earlier women’s movements to improve the lives of prostitutes, increase wages and employment opportunities for working women, ban alcohol, and abolish slavery inspired and led directly to the organized campaign for women’s suffrage.


The movement towards women’s suffrage began in 1840 when Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton went to London to attend a World Anti-Slavery Society Convention. The were barred from attending and told to sit in a curtained enclosure with other women attendees if they wished to meet. This incident inspired Mott and Stanton to organize the First Women’s Rights Convention which was held in Seneca Falls, New York, in 1848. Three hundred women and some men came. The Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions, which stressed equality among men and women and also listed grievances, like women’s lack of voting, property, marriage, and education rights, was written at the convention and signed afterwards. This event inspired other conventions, like the first National Women’s Rights Convention in 1850, and the formation of organizations, like the National American Women’s Suffrage Association in 1890, both of which aided the fight for women’s suffrage.


After women got the right to vote in 1920, the most devoted members of the women’s movement focused on gaining other rights for women. Alice Paul and Lucy Burns, who had created the National Women’s Party in 1916 to work for women’s suffrage, turned their efforts toward passing the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). This amendment, which would make all forms of discrimination based on sex illegal, did not receive significant support and never passed. Arguments against the ERA, advocated by social reformers, such as Florence Kelley and Jane Addams, along with administrators in the Women’s Bureau of the Department of Labor, were that the ERA would, in reality, eliminate protective legislation for women, harming working-class women instead of helping them.


Another issue that the Women’s Rights Movement undertook was women’s reproductive rights. In early 19th century American society, a husband could legally demand sexual intercourse from his wife, even if she didn’t consent. Because of this, the issue of birth control began to surface among women activists. Margaret Sanger and Emma Goldman started advocating birth control in the 1920s. The American Birth Control League, which would later become the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, was founded in 1921. Throughout the 1900s, birth control would remain an important issue in the Women’s Rights Movement.


In the 1960s, the second wave of the Women’s Rights Movement began. Attitudes toward women in the 1960s were not very different than they had been in the 1920s, so in the 1960s women began again to fight for their unattained equality. World War II had brought large numbers of women out of their homes and into the workforce. Many women began to acknowledge their dissatisfaction with being only a wife and mother with no means for a career. Betty Friedan was a woman who wrote about her experiences as a housewife in her book The Feminine Mystique. She wrote about the buried and unspoken “problem,” that lack of fulfillment that middle-class, educated suburban housewives could not identify within their lives, but knew existed. Friedan helped launch the modern wave of the Women’s Rights Movement by inspiring thousands of women to look beyond their roles as homemakers for fulfillment.


The Feminine Mystique was written by Joan B. Fowle, who is also a senior researcher in women’s studies.[3] There are very few women historians of the 1970s and early 1980s, so we can only speculate that this first wave of the women’s rights movement started when, between 1975 and 1982, most of the women were doing what their husbands had promised about women becoming “equal partners” to men. If they were still doing this, we can think of many reasons it is not fair that “equal partners” and “equal mothers” should not be the same thing.[4]

These who used to work in the United States and now work in the Canadian province of Quebec, say the same thing, they know of only the women who have married men, but have taken men’s wives as wives too. My position when I talk about the history of my family and what happened to my parents in the 1970s (not to mention the Women’s Rights Movement, or feminism) is that this was not a single event of a single single woman, or even any of the things “women” were said to be doing.[5] I cannot say I was at the forefront of their effort to reclaim the rights of women everywhere and at the same time that I am proud of the work I had done over this period to ensure they would not be judged by the way they treated women during the era.[6] (What I believe occurred in my family was that things took a sudden back up, and it did not show up on the timeline I was given the time to build upon for years, when the new feminism was coming around, of course, which is why those people called people of my family “men’s rights women.”) I was concerned about what I would later say to friends, family, friends of mine, and many others; I do not believe I was at the forefront of their effort to reclaim the rights of women everywhere, especially at the start of their work; I feel certain that I have gone some way to restoring some of their “underclass roots”, to restoring the notion that even though women were always equal to men, there never seemed to be enough work done to ensure that this was true.

In this essay I will explain the idea of meta-ethics through ethical naturalism, part of ethical cognitivism and ethical non-cognitivism. I believe that ethical judgements cannot be based on natural properties or nature because I don’t believe that anything is objectively right or wrong, and therefore ‘good’, for example, doesn’t have any natural properties (something objective that can be identified empirically) and so cannot be defined.


I will first approach ethical naturalism. Ethical naturalism claims that ethical statements can be translated into factual statements, and therefore can be verified or falsified. In other words, moral statements can be proved or disproved through empirical evidence. For example, saying “X killed someone” and “X is a bad person” would both be viewed as factual information to the ethical naturalist, as they believe that through behaviour one can judge whether or not someone is a good person. In this case the behaviour of X killing someone has defined him or her as a bad person. However, does killing someone actually make you a bad person? What if X killed this person to save him or herself, or to save someone else’s life? So killing someone doesn’t necessarily define ‘bad’. Now to say “X is a bad person” means that you have made two presuppositions. The first being that it can be proven by empirical evidence, and the second that it is mass approved, i.e. something that is generally thought to be either right or wrong by most people, or it can be proved through a scientific method. Here all ethical statements are basically reduced down to statements of approval and disapproval.


However there are huge problems with this theory. The first, thought of by Hume, is that it isn’t possible to get an ‘ought’ statement from an ‘is’ statement. Ethical naturalists try to make ‘good’ and ‘bad’ etc. descriptive, rather than evaluative. Hume says that this isn’t possible, if one person says “X is a bad person” doesn’t mean X is a bad person, nor does it mean someone else will say, “X is a good person”. Ethical statements simply cannot be derived from fact because the former (ought) is evaluative and the latter (is) is descriptive. This exposes the fundamental philosophical flaw of ethical naturalism- that value judgements can be deduced from actual statements.


Hume’s law is backed up by Brandt, who expands on this idea. He says that the only time an ethical conclusion can be made from a statement is if the original statement had an ethical component in it to begin with. For example, if a certain act maximised happiness for all is seen as ‘right’, then in that specific situation, telling a lie to someone would be seen as ‘right’ because it would maximise happiness for all
