The World Cup is the most watched and famous sporting event which is happening to take place in Qatar this year for the 2022 World Cup. Qatar is very strict on homosexuality with it being illegal and punishable by up to three years in prison. Qatar says they are welcoming to all and will welcome anyone with open hands even though it has been shown that this is not the case. The World Cup has brought a spotlight to the issue that the LGBTQ community face and this is an issue that should not only be talked about only during the World Cup but after the tournament as well. There have been people that have been turned away because they are wearing pride colors or anything that symbolizes it which does not allow them to express themselves. National teams were not able to wear the one love arm bands which are in support of the LGTBQ. I Choose this issue because of the platform that it is happening in and it is an event that many people watch including me. There have been many controversies during this current world cup like the migrant workers’ rights and safety with many workers dying during the construction of the stadium. I think this is the best time to try and make a change since so many countries and their population has their eyes on what is happening in Qatar.
