The additional intake from a protein supplement, regardless of its timing, might not result in further performance gains.

The results from this study confirm the results from previous studies and further indicate that the timing of protein supplement ingestion does not provide any additional benefit for strength and power gains and lean tissue accruement in resistance-trained athletes.

The results of this study do not support the hypothesis that protein timing provides a benefit to lean body mass, strength and power improvements.

The SunGold, a variety of kiwifruits with superior qualities was developed in New Zealand and is owned by Zespri co-operative. Zespri has the plant variety rights (PVR) or patents for the SunGold kiwifruit in New Zealand. Only farmers licensed by Zespri are allowed to grow SunGold variety. Nevertheless, the cuttings of SunGold kiwifruits were smuggled to China and resulting in plantations of counterfeit SunGold across China. New Zealand growers, the owners of SunGold brand, are not certain on whether to license Chinese farmers or fail to defend its intellectual property for the sake of maintaining good trading relationship with China.

Patent and trademark are different in the sense that trademark is the exclusive right to use a specified brand word or symbol to represent the brand. Project Healthcare data analysis is a POC aimed at integrating SAS – datasets via SQL Server into Splunk and use the data for content presentation in Splunk. Processes dump the SAS datasets into SQLServer, and db connect app enables data ingestion into Splunk. The ingested data is used for reporting and building dashboards.

The article “The Transition from Armed Opposition to Electoral Opposition in Central America” by Michael E. Allison is about how different political parties in Central American countries (Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras) started to move out of being guerillas and made their way into political parties. The article focused on four political parties for each country: Nicaragua (FSLN), El Salvador (FMLN), Guatemala (URNG), Honduras (PUD). There were two main political parties in each country. The voting processes for each country was different. Because the voting was different in different countries it sometimes was hard for third- party challengers to compete. The voting in single-member-distracts voting tends to create a 2-party system so it makes it more difficult for third-party challengers to compete effectively. PUD was the political party that had the most difficultly getting into the favorable spot of the people. FSLN was the only one of these parties to have occupied presidency

The FSLN lost office in 1990 and has not regained it but it still is one of the two strongest electoral forces in Nicaragua. FSLN is the only one that has served in both government roles and opposition roles.

ARENA was another political party in El Salvador that did not have a connection with the civil war era. The presidential candidate was young. FMLN did not want to be associated with the civil war era; they had a hard time disassociating themselves from the civil war.

In Guatemala, the political party URNG got 10 percent of the vote in the legislature and presidency. It was a high number for a new political party that did not have any experience in the electoral before.

In Honduras the government announced that there was an amnesty program for political prisoners and guerillas in exile because of that many former guerrillas agreed to abandon what remained of the armed struggle and join into a new political party.

Honduras had two main political parties which were the National Party and the Liberal party and the third largest was PUD. PUD did not come close to winning an election although their seats in the election increased. PUD did not have a chance in winning against the two main political parties.

FSLN is the only group to win presidency and it is still one of the two largest groups in Nicaragua.7. The PUD entered electoral competition weaker both organizationally and in public support than the region’s other guerrilla groups

The probability of the new political parties to most likely succeed in competing in presidential systems under majority runoff rules than under plurality electoral rules was higher. The political parties are likely to perform better in election for president where there is a majority runoff than plurality voting.

By the end of the century, the formed opposition groups had disarmed, demobilized, and pursued the electoral route to power. These political parties were guerillas before the political parties.

Initial electoral performance of the new political parties closely was closely tied their experiences and performance as armed opposition groups. Medium and long-term success was based on their ability to exploit the personnel and skills developed during the insurgent period.

The business I have chosen to evaluate belongs to the fast fashion industry. Fast fashion businesses have recently focused on being more environmentally responsible to appeal to customers that wish to shop ethically. I chose to analyse whether fast fashion businesses can truly be environmentally and socially responsible. Environmental goals and business objectives tend to conflict each other often. Many businesses now greenwash in order to maintain their current customer base. Many companies fail to meet the claims they make. Corporate social responsibility and being sustainable has not always been a priority to businesses. With time there are many more businesses focusing on their environmental impact. H&M is one of the businesses that has been praised as well as criticized for it’s sustainability efforts as a fast fashion business.

Thesis:

H&M has been marketed as an environmentally conscious firm that aims to make ethical decisions. The business has also been criticized for not doing enough when considering sustainability. The nature of the fast fashion firm that encourages consistent sales goes against many core environmental issues. One of the steps taken by H&M is their eco-conscious clothing line. This clothing line is claimed to be made more sustainably in comparison to the rest of their products. The choices in materials in particular is considered better for the environment in comparison to their regular clothing line. For example, “H&M Group was given a Vegan Deco Award by PETA for a patterned cotton rug made from 100% recycled cotton that was part of our Conscious HOME collection” (“Praise from others”). In addition to this, the business also offers conscious points for shopping from their eco-conscious line. This is aimed to encourage people with environmental concerns to shop more from the brand. It also helps to get more customers to choose to purchase from this clothing line instead.

There are limitations to this however, one being how evidently small their eco-conscious section is in comparison to their regular clothing line. Introduction and Background

As a senior accounting student at Grandview State University (a fictitious university), you have been selected to join a new initiative based on your interest in forensic accounting. This new initiative, described as the Fraud Service Project (FSP), is a collaborative effort between the accounting department at your university and the Grandview Police Department (PD). The FSP provides free forensic accounting services to small not-for-profit organizations in the Grandview community that believe that they may have been victims of fraud. Student volunteers, under the supervision of their faculty advisors, assist the Grandview PD’s fraud unit in the investigation of possible fraud. The responsibilities of the student volunteers and their faculty advisors include meeting with the fraud victims and police detectives, examining relevant documents, and preparing a written report to the Grandview PD. Upon reviewing the written report, the Grandview PD will consult with the county attorney to decide the next course of action. The county attorney could dismiss the case, request further investigation, or charge the alleged fraud perpetrator.

Your first assignment for the FSP involves a possible fraudulent situation at a local not-for-profit organization, the Grandview Community Recreation Association (GCRA). As part of this assignment, you and your faculty advisors are invited to attend a confidential meeting at the Grandview PD’s headquarters to discuss the GCRA case with police sergeant Brody Carnahan, lead investigator on the case, and two of GCRA’s Board members.

GCRA is a community-based recreational association that sponsors various youth sports activities in the Grandview community. It was organized as a not-for-profit organization under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c) (3). As such, GCRA is required to file Form 990 each year with the Internal Revenue Service. The primary revenue source of GCRA is participant fees, usually paid by the parents of the youth who participate in the various sports activities sponsored by GCRA. In addition, GCRA receives two grants from the local government. Expenses for GCRA consist of playing field and office rentals, salaries for two part-time employees (the executive director and the office manager), utilities, insurance, sports apparel, and a variety of sports equipment. To minimize expenses, GCRA relies heavily on volunteers to help with coaching, setting up and tearing down the playing fields, staffing registration booths at sports events, and distributing promotional flyers in the community.

The GCRA Board of Directors is comprised of the paid part-time executive director and four volunteers. The current members of the Board are Quentin Macintosh, executive director; Greg Andres, president; Brittney Wheeler, vice-president; Robert Norwalk, treasurer; and Annemarie Karon, Board officer. Jess Daniels, the paid part-time office manager, attends all Board meetings in an ex officio capacity. Members of the Board are tasked with carrying out the general business operation of GCRA. Quentin sets the agendas for the Board, oversees the volunteers, and promotes the association’s activities. Greg manages the scheduling of the playing fields. Brittney oversees the training of coaches. Robert handles the association’s finances, including filing tax returns and preparing the financial statements. Annemarie assists wherever help is needed.

The Confidential Meeting

During the confidential meeting at the Grandview PD’s headquarters, both Greg and Brittney expressed concerns about GCRA’s financial situation. In particular, they were worried about an apparent discrepancy between the cash balance in the accounting record, as reported by Robert, and the checking account balance, as reported on GCRA’s bank statement. They also suspect that Robert might have obtained a debit card for GCRA’s checking account without the Board’s knowledge or approval. In addition, they have concerns about Robert’s recent behavior, reporting that he did not attend the last two monthly Board meetings and has not responded to numerous phone calls and email messages in regard to the cash discrepancy. They recalled a Board meeting where Robert complained about not getting paid for all of the time that he was spending on GCRA’s business. After discussing the cash discrepancy and Robert’s odd behavior with the other Board members, Quentin and Annemarie, they decided to contact the police.

To aid with the investigation, Greg and Brittney brought several documents for Sergeant Carnahan, which were then shared with you and your faculty advisors. These documents are presented as Exhibits 1 through 8. Exhibit 1 shows the fee structure for each GCRA-sponsored sport. Exhibit 2 provides the details on the revenues, expenses, and increase in net assets for the year ending October 31, 20X1. Exhibit 3 provides the details on the revenues, expenses, and increase in net assets for the three months ending October 31, 20X1. Exhibit 4 is the accounting record prepared by Robert, detailing the association’s transactions from August through October 20X1. Given that GCRA is a small not-for-profit organization, it elects to use the cash-basis method of accounting. Exhibit 5 contains the three most recent bank statements. In addition, several of the association’s canceled checks and all of the deposit slips for the three-month period are included in Exhibits 6 and 7, respectively. The Board of Directors

You learn more about the Board of Directors as you start the investigation. The executive director, Quentin Macintosh, started working part-time for GCRA after retiring from a full-time career as a salesperson. A widower, Quentin enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, who are involved in GCRA’s baseball activities. The president, Greg Andres, is an attorney with his own law office. He is a married father of three and enjoys volunteering because his children are involved in many of the sports activities. Vice-president Brittney Wheeler is a single mother and grade school teacher with two children, who are in the baseball program. Robert Norwalk, the treasurer, recently married his third wife. He is currently working for a temporary agency, as his previous managerial position with a mid-sized firm was eliminated due to a merger and acquisition. His three children from his previous marriages participated in the sports activities when they were younger. Annemarie Karon, a Board officer, is retired from an administrative job with the city. She wants to be involved because her four grandchildren are starting the T-ball program. Jess Daniels, the paid part-time office manager, attends college full-time. As a teenager, she was very active in soccer and umpire training.

The Internal Controls

Internal control refers to procedures and policies, as well as certain activities, established by an organization to safeguard assets and records, assign responsibility and accountability, prepare accurate financial statements, and ensure compliance with laws, contracts, and regulations. Many control activities are important, but in the context of GCRA, you decide to focus on two important control activities—separation of duties and independent checks on performance—and to determine how these control activities operate at GCRA.

To achieve an effective segregation of duties, no one person should have responsibility over authorization, accounting, and custody. Potential problems could arise if one person has control over any two of the preceding functions. At GCRA, the part-time executive director, Quentin Macintosh, and the Board president, Greg Andres, are in charge of authorization. They authorize the payment of checks by performing a brief review of the checks and supporting documentation. Robert Norwalk, the volunteer treasurer, is in charge of accounting. He prepares the monthly accounting documents and the quarterly and annual financial statements, and also files the tax returns. Jess Daniels, the part-time office manager, maintains custody of the checkbook by keeping it locked up when Robert does not need it to write the checks.

Quentin conducts independent checks on performance, in a general sense, and addresses any questions or problems brought up by the volunteers. As required, Annemarie must review the schedules for the playing fields that Greg prepares. Mistakes in scheduling the playing fields are difficult to correct, so this review is important. Jess is responsible for reviewing the bank statements and reconciling the checking account. It appears, however, that the review and reconciliation are not completed on a timely basis.

The Fraud Triangle

The fraud triangle is a useful tool for analyzing situations in which fraud has occurred or is suspected or where it could occur.1 There are three parts to the fraud triangle: motivation, opportunity, and rationalization. Motivation is the reason the perpetrator (a person or an organization) has for beginning the fraud; it is a real or perceived financial pressure or need. For an individual, for example, motivation could be supporting an elderly parent, experiencing a divorce, or suffering from drug addiction. Opportunity is the way in which the perpetrator can commit the fraud without being detected. Opportunity, for instance, could be weak separation of duties or a supervisor who does not understand the work of subordinates. Rationalization is the self-justification that explains committing the fraud. Possible rationalizations are a belief that stolen money is a loan and will be paid back or is a way to “get even” for not receiving a pay raise.

Some Characteristics of a Not-For-Profit Organization

A not-for-profit organization (NFP) faces some challenges not typically faced by large for-profit organizations. An NFP will have a Board of Directors to provide oversight, as does a for-profit corporation. The members of a Board at an NFP, however, may not be familiar with accounting or internal controls, or, if they are, these areas might be neglected as the NFP focuses on its core services. In addition, the Board may not have an ethics policy or an audit committee. Such an organization will most likely rely on volunteers to do much of the work, and these volunteers may not be familiar with financial oversight. Moreover, conflicts of interest among executives, Board members, suppliers, and beneficiaries may not be addressed (Ho 2010; Zac and De Armond 2015).

Donations are essential for the operations of the NFP, and it is possible that a major donor will come to wield substantial influence and possibly override the wishes of the Board members. An NFP may hesitate to report suspected fraud because it does not want bad publicity. The concern is that if donors hear about such a financial loss, they will not contribute in the future. In addition, as the result of such a situation, the Board may fear losing the organization’s important tax-exempt status (Baker Tilly 2016).

For this assignment, you need to find an original research paper, read it, and write up a response that describes the study, all the while connecting the content of the study to the content of the course/textbook. In reading your responses, we should we able to ascertain what the study was about (research question, how they answered the question, aka the method, and what the results are), and how it relates to what we talked about in class.

Your responses should be no more than 500 words. This isn’t a lot of words, which means you’ll need to think about how to be as clear and concise as possible to fit all the information you need in the length provided. Writing concisely can be a challenge, but it is a useful skill to develop!

The connections you make between your article and the class content should be meaningful, and not shallow. For example, saying “My article was about perceptual narrowing, and perceptual narrowing is something that we talked about in class” will not cut it. Here are some types of connections I could envision you making. Note: these are not all the possible types of connections you could make; also, the sentences I provide in parentheses are meant to be simplified templates for the types of arguments you could make, not actual sentence structures you should use in your responses:

Gaining more insight into something we learned in class (In class we learned that children X. My article argued that the reason children do X is because of Y.)

Contradicting something we learned in class (In class, we learned that children X because of Y. The article I read, however, argues instead that children X because of Z)

The paper you choose must be taken from an academic research journal and must pertain to the topic of the course, i.e., Language Development or Acquisition. You can have your paper approved by the instructor via email if you want to be sure by sending a full reference and link to the paper.

The title of response should be the reference to the article you read (in APA format, 6th or 7th edition). This does not count towards the word limit. At the end of your response, on a separate line, indicate the word count (Word count: XXX). If you highlight your response in Microsoft Word, it will tell you the number of words in the bottom left.

Consider a recent project that you have worked on. This could be for a company or organization with which you are familiar, or even a personal project such as purchasing a home or planning a family gathering. 

After your opening paragraph, which includes your thesis statement, identify your selected company or organization in no more than three paragraphs. Then, complete the following:

Create either a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) of the project or Gantt Chart for planning and scheduling the project. Discuss why you used the type of chart you did.

Determine and document both probabilistic (t0, tp, and tm) and deterministic time estimates. Discuss how you arrived at these time estimates.

Using MS Word, Google Docs, or similar software, create a PERT network diagram with the Critical Path (CP) identified.

Calculate the slack time for each activity. Discuss the ramifications of slack in the CP for the activities and the project as a whole.

Develop the network diagram from the probability estimates. Discuss which path you would take and why.

For each activity, determine hypothetical costs in a table. Include budgeted costs, percent complete, actual/projected cost, and over/under budget (and total). Discuss the rationale for how you derived these costs.

Crash an activity on the Critical Path. Discuss the ramifications of crashing the activity you crashed.

Telephone pole design institutions have several wings that are connected by a central corridor. These designs can have a physical impact on elderly inmates. Older inmates may struggle getting around the long corridors typically present in these designs. Gaining access to medicine and services can be problematic. These institutions can also have a psychological impact on elderly inmates. Older inmates may feel the stress of being placed with younger inmates. They may feel more vulnerable to being attacked. There could be a sense of social isolation. And, further stress could be felt due to the inability of staff being able to gain control of a corridor in the event of a riot (Siegel & Bartollas, 2018). Further, this design could affect inmate/officer relationships. This type of style creates a distant relationship between officers and inmates. As a result, officers may not realize the unique needs of the elderly inmates and may have the same expectations of them as they do of the younger inmates.
